The Marlene — Hotel in Houston

I was very excited to stay at The Marlene and support the work of my friend Tom, who helped the owners bring their vision to life. I've had the pleasure of watching Tom fall in love with hospitality over the years, and The Marlene is a culmination of all his professional growth and passion.

I carved out time to enjoy the gorgeous Bar Madonna and was impressed with the menu's diversity. There is significant consideration for NA drinkers, and all drinks have a unique spin.

The bar staff was gracious, efficient and levelheaded as they navigated a very busy cocktail hour. Even during an intense service, care and patron experience were top priority. The intimacy, charm and attention to detail come together for a one-of-a-kind hospitality experience, whether you're staying for a cocktail or the night.

We came to Houston for business, but stayed for pleasure. I had my sights set on staying at The Marlene in Montrose while my husband had business downtown, just a couple miles away, and I got my wish. We checked in late Sunday afternoon and were greeted with champagne by Tom and his assistant. With guests scattered throughout, the house had a vibe on an unlikely party day that told us everyday is special at The Marlene. Tom walked us up to our room, The Sophie, and told us this one was special. And he was right. The butter yellow room was drenched in a lovely Brunswig and Fils floral fabric on the windows and the four poster bed. Lily had every detail covered - from the wonderful products in the shower to the incredible bedding and bathrobes. We were in heaven! Mornings greeted us with French pastries and coffee and evenings sent us to bed with the best Sancerre from the bar and goodnight wishes from Lily, Thomas and Hope. Run, don’t walk to The Marlene! I can’t recommend The Marlene highly enough for anyone visiting Houston. We stayed in the Mia room, which was truly one of the most unique and beautifully curated spaces we’ve ever stayed in. Every detail felt intentional, and the bed was extremely comfortable. The service was stand out —thoughtful and attentive at every turn. We loved having priority reservations at the incredible bar, and the girl working the concierge/front desk was so sweet and helpful. We couldn’t imagine staying anywhere...
