When you are an expatriated New Yorker it always seems as if you are on a holy crusade to find a place that can serve you a slice of home. Unfortunately this crusade usually ends as a typical slaying of the unrighteous.
Then my Italian friend, who just happens to be from Brooklyn, NY, told me a story of two Albanian nationals who decided to move to Naples once the wall fell. Supposedly these two fellows eventually decided to take their talents to NY and continue to make pizza.
This is where the story gets fuzzy to me....but low and behold they open up a shop in far western Houston and begin to make pies for the same people that like chewy thick pizzas that are half way between Chicago and NY style pizza topped with Sysco cheese product. Seems like a gamble to me. But it appears the gamble has paid off as they have now opened multiple locations. Though Greenspoint probably wasn't the best idea for one of the locations.
Oh yeah, about the pizza. The pizza is the best NY pizza in Houston, but there is not much competition so that is not saying much. I do have to say that it is the best rendering of NY style pizza I have encountered in the southeastern United States. All of the better pies I have had are of the Neapolitan variety.
The pie simply smelled so good that once I got it in the car that it did not make it out of the parking lot before I had partaken in the first...
Read moreI can't even believe I'm having to write this but Ive been coming here for years since coming to Texas, today was the first day I've ever had a an issue I call and place my order it was repeated back to me correctly and I was given the total. When I arrived and got my food the slice of pizza I got which was supposed to have feta cheese tomato and spinach on it it didn't have the tomato on it which I spoke and said something and asked could it be fixed. They fixed the pizza but put the same slice that was already cooked back in the oven which made it hard. I asked them for a new slice because the pizza was now too hard and the older guy I'm guessing the owner starts yelling at employee to give me my money back also saying that's how they make all slices and if I didn't like it oh well. I was confused because I never once asked for my money back I just wanted my pizza made correctly. So I begin to tell them I still want my slice not a refund I was ignored for 3 minutes before they finally said they can't make my slice again. This broke me down to tears in front my child because not only are you embarrassing me but your yelling about a refund and all I wanted was my pizza I literally come here every week!! Every Saturday to be exact and this broke my heart I won't be returning here ever again due to these unfair circumstances and I wish the had better customer service...
Read moreA few coworkers and I got pizza during break here while moving office spaces. It was our first time coming here so we weren't sure what to get. We ended up getting half Hawaiian and half pepperoni and sausage. The pepperoni and sausage side was extremely greasy, but it was good. I dropped a good amount of the grease on myself when I wasn't careful. The cheese was still hot and slid off the dough when we first tried to pick up the slice. The flavour over all was delicious. The Hawaiian side was lacking in flavour. I expected more with the toppings and seasoning. It only had Canadian ham and pineapple on it. I'm not sure if we ordered wrong but it did not taste good. It is comparable to wet cardboard with cheese and meat slapped on top. The pineapple didn't taste like it was supposed to. It was almost tasteless with a hint of sugar as if it came straight out of a five year old fruit can. The service wasn't bad but it wasn't great either. The boy at the counter seemed as confused as we were. It could have been his first week so I can let it go. They didn't give us napkins nor did they have a container set out for customers to grab them. We had to ask twice before getting them. The experience could have been better but it wasn't as bad as I have had at other places. I will be going back to try something else and write a...
