I’m not a fast-food eater in general. But over the last 2-3 years I decided, by happenstance, to sample chicken sandwiches as they seemed to have an almost cult-like following; I was curious as to why all the fuss. Other than that, I can’t recall the last time I ate from a fast-food chain for any reason in near a decade.
So I tried chicken sandwiches at Chic Fil A, Popeyes, KFC, Church’s, Burger King and McDonalds. There were a couple of real surprises.
I made sure I bought and ate after purchasing during a rush (peak lunch or dinner), the idea being I’d be getting as hot and as “fresh” as the chain would make it. I wanted their best attempt. I considered overall taste, volume (size) of chicken piece, bread, and price.
Popeyes was the best, by far. KFC, and real surprisingly, Burger King were next in line. All 3 of these were so good that I wouldn’t go out of my way for one over the other, just would choose whichever was the most convenient, but all else equal, it’s Popeyes.
Church’s was good but clearly behind the first 3. McDonalds was awful, would never consider them again, even if extremely hungry. It came across to me as though McD's just put a chicken sandwich on the menu to try and grab some market share, but gave the product no thought whatsoever.
The biggest surprise was Chic Fil A.
It was the most expensive, but had the least impressive bread and the smallest amount of chicken (or at least very similar to McDonalds). The pickles on the sandwich tasted awful and as if they had been left out on the counter all day. I felt like I had bought some generic heavily breaded chicken patties, sandwich bread and pickles at some large wholesaler, warmed it all in some low-grade toaster and made it myself. The bread seemed to be twice as large as the chicken patty.
I’m honestly confused as to why Chic Fil A has such a following, my experience was beyond awful.
Again, Popeyes absolutely the best. BK was the biggest and very pleasant surprise (at least with the sandwich offered during the summer of ’21, not sure it’s still being sold as I haven’t seen ads lately). Chic Fil A was the biggest and a massive disappointment, my sandwiches weren't even close to being okay, never mind good. I did think about trying them again to see if I just got unlucky, but it was that bad, I haven't done so as of yet, and currently don't have any plans to try again.
[Just to be clear, as in the crazy and nonsensically woke times we currently are living through, my thoughts on Chic Fil A have 0% to do with their standings on social issues. In general, I'm a huge supporter of Chic Fil A in that regard but my tastebuds and stomach aren't political. My tastebuds and stomach just called it like they saw...
Read moreFor the past year, I've come here everyday to eat and relax after work. I went all last week like I normally do and instantly realized the atmosphere had completely changed. I looked around and all the tables were dirty. There were food crumbs and napkins all over the floor. After all this, I got my food and also realized no one was greeting the customers as they walked in. It felt very disorganized, displeasing, and depressing being here now. After dealing with this horrible customer service and bleak atmosphere all week I asked one of the employees on the side and that's when I received the unfortunate news; Ms. Norma transferred to a different Chick-fil-A location.
Ms. Norma was sole reason why I use to come to this location. It always felt like home. She was a very loving person, and genuinely cared for all her customers. I have never in my life received any customer service like hers. From the moment I'd walk in...she never failed to greet me and always welcomed me with a smile. I always had a clean table to sit at and enjoy my food. It was not in her job description to do this, but she always asked what I was drinking and if I needed more refills. She had no problem getting more sauces, or napkins for me or any other customers. It was just not me, but many other people also loved and appreciated Ms. Norma for everything she did. During Christmas countless customers, including myself, came just to drop off small Christmas gifts to her as a token of appreciation for her hard work all year, going above and beyond, and having superb customer service everyday. The entire Heights community knew and loved Ms. Norma very much. My friends and family who lived miles away would purposely come here just for Ms. Norma. They'd always tell me, "her amazing service...is worth the drive!"
Due to this, my friends, family, and myself will no longer be coming to this location. In a span of one week, I've already noticed the huge difference without Ms. Norma being here. Without her, this location will no longer be or feel the same. Her energy, enthusiasm, her genuine love for helping and being attentive of every customer no matter who they were is unmatched. Ms. Norma will be...
Read moreMy office is so close to this location. I will go there with 5 or 6 orders for my office. Sometimes we do catering and they are always on point. I absolutely love chick fil a but my two most recent experiences with this one in particular have changed my mind. A few days ago i went through the drive thru. I had two different order. The lady who took the order was so rude! She kept pushing me to make decisions and had such a bad attitude. I asked for a Cobb salad and she said “we don’t have that” I asked for another salad with garlic & herb ranch dressing and she said “we don’t have that” I asked for another and she said the same thing. I overheard a guy in the lane next to me ask for a Cobb salad no problem. Once I finally got done with my order she didn’t tell me where to go or anything. She just waved her hand like pushing me away. I was so disappointed with the service. I have never been treated like that at a Chick fil a. The next day the Rockets team was doing a promotion where you give chick fil a your ticket and you get a sandwich. Luckily i called in advance to ask if that were participating in the promotion. The girl on the stated “I don’t know what your are talking about you must have the wrong number” and then hung up. I was in awe. How could an establishment that has such good customer service give me two bad experiences back to back. It was ridiculous; how they treated me was unacceptable. I will not be going back to this Chick fil a. The amount of disrespect they showed me on two separate occasions was just flabbergasting. I told my office that we will no longer be ordering from this location as they do not know what...
