Dessert is a must for me. It explains how I've lost my girlish figure, but I gotta have it! I was going to go to my old standard for desserts in the West University area, but my wife talked me into trying something new. Not that I didn't want to. Fat Cat has been on my radar for a couple of months now and I just hadn't made it into town and had time to check it out. We made our way from Montrose to The Heights. Two great areas of Houston, btw, especially for food! I'd noticed it driving by a few weeks ago after leaving Torchy's Tacos down the road, so I knew where I was going. I also knew that can be a busy street (19th) so I hoping I wouldn't have to circle around the parking lot to find a spot to park. I did have to park on the other side of the lot, but it is a short walk to the Fat Cat. We noticed a bunch of people outside, so I told my wife we may just get it to go and eat in the car. I didn't realize how small it really is! There was 4 small tables and about a half dozen bar stools to sit at. So, They do have an outside area as well. They have a small selection of ice cream, but it was good. I ordered the strawberry cheesecake sundae, which was a piece of cheesecake with two scoops of Mexican Vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, graham cracker crust dust and a cherry on top. It was very good. Not the best, but very good. My wife did not like it so she didn't order anything....
Read moreI really want to like this place. Why? Because the people working there was really nice and down to earth. They were extremely patient with me and wanted me to like their ice cream flavor. This place is not my cup of tea. I really wanted to try the pistachio soft-serve ice cream, but the machine was broken. They tried to fix it, but unable to until the next day.
Their flavors kind of taste all the same because my friend inform me that they use buttermilk and that tends to be a bit overbearing. If you are into weird, adventous flavors. This place is for you.
They have Dark Chocolate Stout (I dislike Dark Chocolate and beer), Winterberry (Tart, but fresh from the usage of fresh fruit), Meyor Lemon Vanilla, Chai Tea Latte Coconut (Chai Tea and Coconut ratio is off and more favorable to coconut), Mexican Vanilla (this is the most horrendous vanilla I have ever tried, the aftertaste was a how a dirty alley-way should taste if you were high and lick the floor), Birthday cake (taste like cheesecake)
Their old fashion soda was actually decent. I had the chinese 5 spice? It's refreshing and taste ginger ale with orange...that's probably why I liked it. Their shirley temple was made with pomegranate juice? I overhead the employee talking about it, but I am unsure. Yeah..., but no. I just liked the chinese 5 so I won't be back...
Read moreIce cream was great; customer service was not. I cannot be certain why the group of people I was with received such bad service unlike the other customers there tonight, but I will probably not return because of it. When we arrived, there were 7 customers in the shop. The line was to the door, so we waited outside. Once 3 left, 3 of my friends tried to walk in. The "Manager" came from around their barrier to tell them they need to wait outside as they can only have 6 people in the shop at one time. There was no sign on the door stating this. We all waited and only went in when a customer left. Checkout process wasn't great at all. The only chocolate flavor they have is alcoholic so when trying to determine what my child, who was waiting outside with my husband, wanted instead, we were rudely told by a worker to close the door as it is letting in the humidity. Once done ordering, one of the friends with me was told by a worker to wait outside for the item they ordered; he was the only one asked to do this. Worst part is, as we sat and ate our ice cream outside, there was consistently 7-9 customers in the shop at one time and not one of them was asked to wait outside. Seems as though we were singled out.
There are 9 people pictured in the...
