Of course you have to try Tex-Mex in Texas!

Of course you have to try Tex-Mex in Texas!

This location has been my favorite for quite some time. My friend and I like to frequent this establishment every couple of months. We come here because the Margaritas are probably the best in the city. Our server tonight 4/12/19 was Austin who was sweet and catered to us...as it should be. However, because we were seated so close to the air vent and door we asked to be moved. I wish we could have taken Austin with us to our new seating location. The new server (won’t share her name) seemed to have been “bothered” by us and/or our presence. I noticed that her other customers received a “different” type of attention than we did. We had to ask for silverware, etc. Nothing was to my satisfaction because for me...customer service is EVERYTHING! My friend voiced her opinion about the Margaritas and the server didn’t seem to appreciate that. She did however, go and get the bar manager. He asked about the “issue” and my friend explained. His facial expression spoke volume. Not long after...sweet Austin came by and apologized for any inconvenience. She offered to make things right and immediately after came Crystal...the manager. Crystal was awesome and truly understands the meaning of customer service. When you deal with the public and are providing a service...you have to make it RIGHT! Crystal made it right by going to the bar and making our Margaritas herself!!! Austin and Crystal are the reasons for the 5 star. They are TOP NOTCH and should be recognized for their EXCELLENCE!! I’ve never given anyone a 5 star but they deserve it!!!

This restaurant has always been my favorite Tex-Mex in other cities, but having it in the state where it came from is different. The food quality is even better than I remember. First of all, make sure to get the creamy jalapeño dipping sauce. That is non negotiable. It’s the best of both worlds, combining a ranch-like dressing with a little kick from chopped jalapeños. It is not only great with the complimentary chips, but also on top of any item on the menu. We also grabbed a queso which, while I was skeptical at first, I quickly changed my mind as the warm and spicy cheese complemented the cold weather perfectly. I went with their mixed fajitas which includes beef and chicken. You will be hard pressed to find juicier, tender fajitas anywhere else. The chicken was so soft and still moist, and the beef was cooked to a medium well consistency. There are also a lot of peppers and onions that are sautéed well. The fajitas come with super soft and freshly made flour tortillas, rice and beans, and taco toppings like cheese, guacamole, lettuce, and tomato. Overall the experience was fantastic and service was an A+.

Too long wont read summery, very slow service, server who felt like he couldn't bother with us, and a manager who completely ignored our complaints and dismissed our concerns completely ruin this location for me and my partner. My partner and I love chuy's, and have never had any real issues till today. Our experience at this location was absolutely unacceptable. I'm no stranger to poor service, and as upset as I was with how our server Tomas handled us, I can write it off as maybe he was having an off day. We where seated by a very nice and bubbly hostess whom is the only redeemable part in our experience today. Shortly after seating, our server showed up with chips salsas and waters for us which was nice, without introducing himself, he asked if we wanted any alchohol, to which we declined. It was quite a wait before he returned to our table, as he had other tables I did not mind the wait, how ever, once at our table he rushed and hardly said a word to us. He was slow to refill our waters, and when we got our refill, there was next to no ice in them, the water itself was room temperature. I ordered the green Chile sauce on my burrito hoping for a good spicy meal, at other locations the spice was low but still there, at this location, the burrito had nearly no spice on it, only faintly felt a tingle on my lip. After eating a couple of bites of my burrito (Wanted to see if the spice just needed a couple bites to hit) we where ready to leave. Water had been empty well before the food was severed and had not been refilled even after waiting 10+ min for the server to come back to us. My partner spoke to a manager to tell her that we where unhappy with our service and our food, her reaction was, and this is not a quote, no way, tomas is an excellent server, and if you didnt like the food, you shouldnt have eaten it and instead sent it back. Mind you this is 10+ minutes after getting the food and having no service, the manager didnt come to the table to see if the food was eaten and just assumed that since the time had passed and the food not returned that it must have been eaten. My partner was told that nothing would cone out us our complaints. We got our bill and a Togo box ( the food is still good, just didnt have any where near the spice level I ordered, i have to pay for it so yes it's coming home with me) we left this location and have decided we have no reason to return to it any time in the future. If you've read this far, perhaps you'll have a better dining experience with them, but for us, it is now black listed, I will drive the extra how ever far it is to another location before I set foot in this...

Step right up and get your poor excuse for TexMex food, negligent service, and shady-as-all get-out manager! Let's be honest; all Chuy's peddle terrible conveyor-heated 1980s TV dinner-quality food. BUT when they add an element of danger and used car salesman-level deceptive manager to the mix, how can you resist? It's one thing to not get a refill on ice water during the entire course of our "meal." And it's ok that the meat-like substance in the steak burrito looked like someone's leftover Campbell's Chunky soup. But, as a huge bonus, our rental car was broken into in the parking lot while we were having lunch, parked in a space next to the building with 3 cameras covering the area. The manager said, "yeah, this happens sometimes." I asked if he could look at the cameras for any help we may be able to give to the police. He said, " I'll check, but I won't be able to see anything. The cameras can't see that far away." The car was parked no more than 30 feet from the cameras. He offered us a seat on this filthy patio in 90 degree heat while he somehow checked 2 hours of footage from 3 cameras in about 5 minutes. Maybe he is that efficient because he gets a lot of practice looking through recordings of crime in the River Oaks location parking lot. Or maybe the cameras don't work at all, and he was lying to us about checking anything. Or maybe he just wanted us to leave and take our problems with us. Whatever the actual story was, I highly recommend the River Oaks Chuy's as long as you take 3 important things: an Uber/Lyft, your own food and drinks, and your middle fingers to show the manager when you tell...
