It is with great disappointment and a tinge of outrage that I recount my recent visit to Albi Restaurant in Houston. With high hopes and anticipation, I entered the establishment, expecting a culinary journey that would transcend ordinary dining experiences. However, what unfolded throughout the evening was nothing short of a complete and utter disaster. From the abysmal service to the lackluster food, Albi Restaurant failed to meet even the most basic standards of hospitality and gastronomy.

One would expect a restaurant of Albi's stature to provide exemplary service, but alas, that was far from the truth. From the moment I stepped foot in the restaurant, the staff appeared disinterested and inattentive. The host's lackadaisical greeting and careless seating left me feeling unwelcome. Throughout the evening, the servers exhibited a shocking level of apathy, paying little attention to our needs and rarely checking in on our table. Basic requests for water refills or additional condiments were met with blatant disregard.

Moreover, the overall knowledge of the staff regarding the menu and ingredients was appalling. When asked about specific dishes and their preparation, the servers seemed clueless and unable to provide any substantial information. It is disheartening to witness such a lack of professionalism and competence in a supposedly high-end establishment.

Food Quality and Presentation:

The most significant disappointment of the evening came in the form of the food served at Albi Restaurant. The dishes lacked creativity, finesse, and, most importantly, flavor. Each plate seemed hastily assembled and lacked the attention to detail that one would expect from a restaurant that claims to offer an elevated dining experience.

The appetizers arrived lukewarm, betraying a lack of attention to timely service. The flavors were underwhelming, with ingredients that failed to harmonize or excite the palate. The promised bold and vibrant flavors were nowhere to be found. It was clear that the kitchen lacked the skill and artistry required to execute even the simplest of dishes.

The main courses fared no better. The portions were meager, barely enough to satisfy one's hunger, let alone justify the exorbitant prices. The protein in my dish was overcooked and dry, an unforgivable sin in the realm of culinary expertise. The accompanying sides were bland and uninspiring, adding nothing to salvage the already disappointing experience. It seemed as though the chef had given up on creating memorable and satisfying meals.

The desserts, which are often the saving grace of any meal, were equally lackluster. The presentation was sloppy, with uninspired plating and unappetizing appearances. The flavors were once again muted, failing to deliver the promised indulgence that a sweet ending to a meal should provide.

In conclusion, my visit to Albi Restaurant in Houston was nothing short of a culinary disaster. The lackadaisical service, combined with the unremarkable and poorly executed food, created an experience that left me deeply dissatisfied and regretful of my choice to dine there. Albi Restaurant fails to deliver on its promises of an elevated dining experience and falls far short of the standards one would expect from a high-end establishment.

I urge fellow diners to reconsider visiting Albi Restaurant and seek out other options that prioritize exceptional service, culinary expertise, and an overall enjoyable dining experience. With a heavy heart, I cannot endorse this establishment, and I hope that my displeased review serves as a cautionary tale for others who may be tempted to give...

I really wanted to like this place so I went in several times and gave small plates and happy hour food a try. Happy hour food was nothing special and I sat at the bar quite a while having not received a happy hour menu until a manager came over to provide me with one. Drinks here are ok but I haven’t tried many: I like and do recommend the Shahz of Sunset. Also, I have not been for the shows but my experiences are unfortunately not likely to send me back to experience them.

Regarding the food the hummus was unlike any I had ever had before and not in a good way- notably too much tahini in it so it tasted real nutty almost like peanut butter. At one point I also ordered Arak scented PEI mussels but the Arak scent was scantily present.

I would describe their mussels as broth based with a hearty layer of some sort of grease on top. The bread served alongside was hard, cold, and tasted stale. I did not enjoy the mussels at all—whatever recipe they are using I would scrap it and give a different chef a chance to create something edible. I simply fished the mussels out of the broth and ate them alone.

Tip to the kitchen for mussels preparation: sauté aromatics until fragrant then add mussels allow Pan to reheat add liquor or wine (in this case Arak) cover and allow to steam while covered. Cook 3 to 5 minutes until mussels have opened. Finish with fresh herbs and a ladle of hot broth, if desired. There’s no reason for mussels to be served in a bowl filled with broth like it were a soup. I suggest finsihing your mussels with chopped fennel fronds and sautéing fennel bulb to add to the Anise flavor and complement the Arak scent which was lacking.

UPDATE: Congrats on the new sign, Nano (and management), it looks real nice. Unfortunately, the reply to my review does not appear genuine (as is also the case with other replies I have seen, commenting on others’ reviews). If you would like to turn things around, however, my door is open. You can find me on LinkedIn if you search for me by name, John Lindsay (use search criteria...

I strongly urge everyone to refrain from supporting this business due to its deeply ingrained and pervasive racist practices, which become evident the moment you walk into the facility. From the very first interaction, you are confronted with a palpable sense of discrimination that is both disturbing and disheartening. The unfairness of their policies is glaringly obvious in how they selectively allow entry. It is astonishing to observe that even the most unattractive and basic-looking Caucasian female can easily gain admittance, while attractive and well-presented African American individuals are unjustly denied entry. This biased and exclusionary behavior is not only morally reprehensible but also creates an environment that is profoundly unwelcoming and hostile to people of color.

What makes this situation even more egregious is the fact that the bouncers enforcing these discriminatory policies are themselves African American. This adds a tragic and ironic layer to the situation, highlighting the extent to which systemic racism can pervade and corrupt even those within marginalized communities. The presence of black bouncers perpetuating these unjust practices underscores the insidious nature of the racism entrenched in this establishment's operations.

The extent of this racism undermines the very principles of fairness and equality that should be upheld in any business. Therefore, supporting such an establishment would be tantamount to endorsing and perpetuating these unjust and discriminatory practices. It is crucial to take a stand against such blatant racism and advocate for a society where everyone is treated with the respect and dignity they deserve, regardless of their race or appearance. The presence of black bouncers does not mitigate the discriminatory practices but rather highlights the deep-seated issues within this business that must be addressed...

Dear readers, I want to scream from the rooftops “it’s about time we get an upscale Lebanese restaurant “…I don’t know what took so long, but I’m just so happy it’s happened…Albi is just what Houston’s restaurant scene needed…it’s vibe is everything…let’s start with all the insta worthy photo ops…from the moment you step out of your car there are 3 spots for fun pics to take…then you walk in and another beautiful backdrop of Albi written in flowers….walk up and into a gorgeous place…great bar, huge private room, and a big dining area…the band was playing Arabic and Spanish music…and in between breaks a great mix of music…we were greeted by the wonderful Alex, he was a great server…explained, and recommended things on and off the menu…not complaining, but I wish there were some traditional dishes, a little less fusion, but the food we ate was really good…the Albi kabab was delicious…fatoush, a little different, but good as well…the homemade breads were amazing…and finally the pistachio tiramisu was out of this world…reservations are a must, but remember it’s a two hour window, but you can always hang out at the bar after…Albi, did win over my heart!

The decor is gorgeous with walls of flowers, red velvet banquettes and comfortable chairs. The overall lighting is dim but well placed lamps make for quite a cozy setting. Our server, Dee, was very attentive and conscientious. She asked if it was OK to give an over view of the restaurant. She asked if she could explain the menu. It was wonderful to have a choice. She swapped plates, suggested menu items, knew every detail of each dish and knew the menu by heart. Great job Dee!! The food is Lebanese, the menu has enough variety to please any palate but isn’t too overwhelming. We tried the Mezza Platter to start. Generous portions of your choice of 6 items, served with hot from the oven pita bread - delicious!!! This appetizer easily serves 2-4 people. We shared a Rib Eye Skewer Entree that is served with Whipped Root Vegetables, similar to mashed potatoes but much more flavorful. Fantastic! Definitely a dining experience not to be missed! Just don’t miss finding it! Above the Men’s Warehouse on W Gray, the entrance and valet attendants are at the back of the building.

It was our first time and I had to say the food was great, we ordered almost everything on the menu except the lamb and they all lived up to our expectations including the octopus and the "most tender part of beef" skewers-according to our waiters. Our waiters was very attentive so I give him a plus on that. On another hand, reservation was a joke here. RSVP at 9, came at 8:45 and by 9:45 we still standing around waiting (if I wasn't complaining, we probably still standing by then). The belly dancer show happened at 9;30 and that is probably why people don't want to leave , hence we keep waiting. We went to fine dining all around the town and hardly any place ever let us waited for that long nor not respected of our time like this one. The manager did come out to resolve and sent us appetizers to make it up for it....but then again, it's kinda ruined the first time experiences. On another note, belly dancer show lasted like 15 min and that was it! You would have thought they would come back again but no, that was it. Nothing too special about it to rave here.
