One of the older Chinese restaurant in Houston that has lasted this long and many years more. Feng Ling has been a stable my get-go Chinese food when I don't feel like cooking after a long day of work. My whole family has been going to this restaurant for a long time where we know the owners as family friends.
Now my review of Feng Ling is based on both dining in and take out.
Take-out review:
It's fast and very good, if you place an order over the phone, they say it's ready in 15 minutes, it's ready in 15 minutes. If you simply just order on site, sometimes they will bring you water while you sit and wait, especially during one of those hot summer days here in Houston. They give me a good amount of white rice depends on how many dishes I order so I can pack the left over for tomorrow's lunch or even tomorrow's dinner.
Dine-in review:
The service is very good but it sometimes depends on the day you go. There has been days when we went where they just hire a new waitstaff so it may be a bit slow, but I have even attended a wedding banquet there which took up pretty much the whole restaurant, and the food came out in good time to all the tables and waters / tea gets re-filled in good time.
Some of my favorite dishes there are Mongolian beef, mapo tofu, and the Peking duck. I also like their shrimp wrap but I could only afford that once a while, just like the duck. Never the less, I guess it's also I've been there for so long and they know my taste, they never make my food too salty or too bland, it has been just right all these time.
For Chinese who still lives here in West Houston, please stop by this restaurant and give it a try, you will not be disappointed. For non-Chinese, you too, should come here for Chinese night out because this is a good place where you can get the Americanized dishes and also try the traditional...
Read moreAt first glance, Feng Ling seems like a good restaurant.., spacious, casual, with reasonable pricing on its menu... until you eat there. The food was bland; the spaciousness is from its lack of customers, and the "reasonable" pricing is because the "new" prices are printed on their togo paper menu and the "old" prices are listed in the actual menu that the wait-staff would give to you. There were some hand written-in corrections, but not all items are corrected. Management - or maybe she was the actual owner - charged me $15.95 for an item listed on their menu as "$11.95" & claimed that she could not correct it or refund me the $4 difference because it was already "computerized" into their cash register.. the same cash register to which she had the key & the cash..lol. How sad.., they have forgotten that they are in America, now, and not still in Hong-Kong or Communist China.. where integrity, decent treatment, customer service, guests retention and repeated business are more important than officious statements. Hihihi. Management officially stated that it is their fault the menu was wrong, and she will correct their main menu and its pricing just for me, because I had pointed it out... LOL!! I stated that I didn't care; I just wanted to be fairly charged for the proper price that was listed..but, no success in that regards; they cared more about the extra $4 than doing the right thing for their first-time customer. Lucky for me, their food was bland enough and their service was substandard enough for a restaurant in the City of Houston that I have no regrets in "never...
Read more0/10 would not recommend. meal was horrible, customer service horrible. The food was bland. when I ordered I asked for fried rice and she said there is no fried rice but I couldn’t sub for steamed vegetables (you can’t make more fried rice???), egg roll was the size of a cheese curl with no filling practically just a fried egg roll wrap. food was $10.55 when the food came i gave the driver a 20 and she said thank you and began to walk away I had to stop her & ask for my change she said she had no change. Ok so you were just going to leave with my change and say nothing? It was late, so i was ok with the change being store credit. Call the next day to order with the credit at the end of the order she asks how much do I want to tip the driver I said no tip. (I felt like the night before was very much unprofessional) anyhow, she says since I am not tipping they can not deliver to me anymore. What?! So they send the driver back out to bring me my change. $20-$10.55= $9.45 right? right. the driver brought me $8 back. So even though I said no tip, you took it upon yourself to tip your driver with my change? I didn’t fuss about it because it’s only $1.45 but it’s the principle of the matter. I will never ever...
