Hank's Ice Cream — Restaurant in Houston

This place looks pretty unassuming. I wasn't paying attention when we pulled up, so I had no idea what a treat I was in for, even when I walked inside.

The lady working the scooper was super nice. I asked her what she would recommend, and she said the butter pecan and the chocolate were the most popular. I asked her what HER favorite was, and told me lemon. So that's what I ordered. When it came time to scoop, I saw her attempting to dip the scooper in the chocolate. I thought maybe she didn't believe I would like lemon (she seemed a little shy about recommending it), or maybe she wanted me to try both since I'd asked for recommendations, but I reassured her I wanted the lemon.

I'm glad I did because it was freaking delicious. It wasn't a tart lemon flavor. It was silky and rich, but with a lot more smoothness and mellowness to the flavor, more like lemon creme. She was attending to other costumers, but when I saw an opportunity, I HAD to stop her let her know, "this lemon is amazing!! You should recommend it to people instead of the butter pecan because it's seriously that good."

She seemed delighted and she reached for a spoon and scooped up a big hunk of chocolate telling me she actually like to mix them together. She gave me the chocolate spoon, I tried it with the lemon, and sure enough she was right!! It made me wish I'd kept my mouth shut so she could work her magic from the get go lol.

I will definitely be returning. I'm curious to know what their other flavors are like. But if this is your first time visiting or if you've never tried it before, give the lemon or lemon/chocolate combo a taste.

On 11/4, I called Hanks ice cream to see if they were going to be open on 11/05. Because I have experienced closures on two separate occasions, I didn't want to make a blank trip. The lady was rude when I called and had an complete attitude for no reason. She said they would be open from 12-7. Fast forward. Went to Hanks ice cream on 11/05, in traffic down Main St from The Astroworld Festival! lol. Went inside with my order. There was no one inside, no line. I had 14 orders of regular one scoop ice creams, same flavor. The lady told me and my co workers that she will not fill our order and that we should have called. Ok no problem. Asked if we could call it in and wait for her to make it, no rush. She replied that she was not going to complete our order, stating that the ice cream was too hard to scoop out. As we started to leave out the door she said she would do half of the order and come back for the rest. I was like I work in Med Center, that does not make sense. Mind you, I said that I would wait. We end up leaving unhappy with no ice cream. I have always been a big supporter of this establishment, but I can't say when the next time I will return....

On at least on 3 to 4 occasions when arrive during business hours there is a sign on the door that says we will be back at a specified time. Specifically, today I arrive the door was locked and I didn’t see anyone so I knocked and someone came from the back and wrote a note while I was standing there that said we will be open at 2pm. She never opened the door to communicate with me, she just placed the signed there. I don’t live in the area so I occupied my time for almost an hour and returned at 1:56 only to see her driving out the parking lot with a sign on the door that says we will be open tomorrow at 12. The Ice Cream is GREAT, however the business etiquette is starting to slack. I run a business as well and respecting your customers time is valuable. The solution is simple either adjust the business hours...
