Came in to check out the new Woodshed replacement & I was not disappointed.
I ordered the Buffalo Fried Shrimp 🍤 to start & just... YUM!!! It is such a simple dish but so we'll executed - in a way that not many can. The fry on the shrimp was perfect. Light &: PERFECTLY CRISPY - it maintained its crispiness even after being smothered in sauce & sitting for 20 mins as I took my time. Speaking of sauce, the buffalo sauce is perfectly balanced - just the right amount of spice & flavor & then the blue cheese crumbles on top... Fuggettaboutit! Oh & the shrimp - PERFECTLY COOKED, not rubbery at all - the perfect Al Dente bite that gives you a delicious snap & then the soft, meaty texture that shrimp should be.
After talking to Chris who was working the bar & another lovely server Sarah, I decided to order the Ahi Tuna Tacos that comes with the Street Corn Casserole - which isn't really a casserole at all but a nice size helping of their take on street corn in a ramekin. I'm not mad about it btw because it's delish, so let's start there. The corn - again, simple but so we'll executed. The corn comes out in a ramekin with butter, seasoning & topped with cheese & more seasoning. Corn can tend to get soft & mushy when overcooked, but every bite of this Street Corn Casserole delivers on a spoonful of the POPS of kernals that deliver natural sweetness along with the butter & seasonings that take this corn side from boring to brilliant. Now, the Ahi Tuna Tacos... WELL DONE!!! I love tuna - specifically fresh, raw tuna. Give me the Ahi any way you can - sushi, towers, poke, "nachos" or tacos. The challenge that I have is that most places take it way far on the sweet side & I don't like sweets so I am always leary if ordering it. Chris & Sarah shared the opinions with me & I decided to give it a try. First, let me say that this is such a good value!!! The kitchen is not shy on the amount of tuna they put in each taco - not to mention it comes with FOUR tacos. And they are fantastic. This was not too sweet & while I could have taken more spice, I believe them to be exactly right for the average person. Each taco comes with a small slice of avocado 🥑 on top & I definitely needed more so I ordered a side of sliced avocado & YUM!!! The only one thing I'll say is that it seems that the cabbage is laid down as the first layer in the wonton "Taco" shell - I'd love either an additional middle layer or have it mixed in with the ahi itself because the crunch from the red cabbage slaw is lovely.
Overall, this was an unexpectedly great lunch. I was a regular at Woodshed & while I don't think anyone can beat their chicken sandwich or their brussels, everything else on their menu was mediocre at best. So I'm really impressed with the quality of food I had today & it makes me excited to come back to try other things. I hope Hearsay keeps up with this level of execution & service so this foodie family can become...
Read moreLooking for new restaurants to try is easy when you live in a large metropolitan area like Houston. I like finding new places that excel not just with the food, but with the atmosphere and other qualities as well. And a restaurant that has a good deal to offer is Hearsay at Levy Park.
Walking into this restaurant, the first thing you notice is the large size and the interesting atmosphere. There is loads of glass, which is nice for the natural lighting it provides during the day. The walls are brick, and there is a long bar with lots of seating. Chandelier- style light fixtures hang from the ceilings above and there is a good deal of seating, along with private space and outdoor tables, too.
Hearsay at Levy Park offers a complete menu consisting of American- style food dishes. Pizza is a good option if you want something a little more economical and less filling. The same is true with the sandwiches, most of which come with a side of rosemary parmesan fries, which is much better than the plain, unseasoned fries so common at other restaurants. If your appetite is heartier, and you want a squarer meal, you can opt for one of the entrees, which are larger and usually come with veggies and other sides. They even have designated vegetarian meals and vegetarian pizza, not to mention a dog friendly menu! You really couldn’t ask for more with the menu options. Everything is tasty and prepared just right. Everyone who comes here should find something they like, and that includes your favorite pet.
With the drinks, Hearsay at Levy Park shines once again, with an extensive menu that includes about 12 beers on tap, 30 wines, and 12 specialty cocktails. Not all the wines are available by the glass, so you may need to ask the person with you if they would like to split a bottle. Like with the food, there are enough options that you should have no problem finding a drink to suit your taste. Whether it’s an adult beverage or a non- alcoholic drink, this restaurant aims to please.
It's cool to have so many restaurant options in the Houston area. It’s even cooler when you can find a restaurant that checks off all the boxes and has something for everyone. Hearsay at Levy Park is that restaurant. It has everything you need in the food and drink categories, loads of seats, and a unique atmosphere. All combined, it should satisfy even the...
Read moreMy friend invited me to join her for brunch after church today at Hearsay. I had never heard of it or eaten there before (hey, we live in the food capitol of the south, Houston...so it's easy to understand why, lol). She had tried the Woodlands' location and since this location was literally only minutes from our church we decided to give it a shot.
The best thing about this location IS its location. It's nicely tucked away in Levy Park with great natural scenery and other features for those who like the outdoors. We sat outside and enjoyed the sights.
Our waitress definitely could have provided better service. There were moments where we'd order a refill on our drinks or ice for our waters, since again we sat outside, and it took the longest for her to get those things done. It wasn't busy yet to justify the wait. I actually never got my ice, she wasn't paying attention when my friend asked for a cup of ice "to go" and ended up bringing her a glass of ice and I just used that.
I had ordered toast with my Farmer's omelet and it didn't come out with my meal. I had to wait another 5+ minutes to get that. Omelet could hv used a little salt, but it wasn't bad. The field of greens salad was good and I liked the sherry vinaigrette dressing, but I didn't eat it all because there was a small bug smashed to the plate. I brought it to the waitress' attention that a dead gnat was on the plate and she just nonchalantly said "I'm sorry" and that was that...interesting, didn't try to accomodate me for that inconvenience at all.🤔
My friend ordered the short rib hash with a fried egg on top and stated she enjoyed it... that it wasn't bad at all.
I ordered the redfish tacos to go and noticed once I got home that I didn't get the corn casserole that I paid for that comes with it. It was just little things like that, that make or break a dining experience for me. So after reading this location's reviews... I clearly agree that the service here could use some improvements.
I ate during brunch, so will only speak on the pricing for that menu. It was reasonably priced. I ordered two entrées and my check was $33 with tax.
Food was decent, not great! But I'm one to give a spot 2x to make a good impression, so I'll be back at the least,...
