I stayed at the Crowne Plaza Houston Med Ctr-Galleria Area for a business conference, and it was an absolute disaster and disappointment from start to finish. The pictures online is NOT how the hotel looks in person. Pulling up to the property, part of the entrance sign is falling off and part of it is missing which was the first warning sign that this property was going to be in disrepair. The property is incredibly run-down and desperately needs a complete remodel. The slug-o-matic elevators aka screeching death traps are in terrible mechanical shapeāvery rough rides, that similar to a bumpy rollercoaster and two of them were out of order in an 18+ floor hotel, I had to wait ten to fifteen minutes to get to the lobby, which is unacceptable. I almost got stuck in the elevator due to the door not opening right away... scary. The pool was closed and dirty with debris and trash in it, and the workout room was useless, with broken and nonfunctional equipment.
As for the guest rooms, they were absolutely terrible and disgusting. I had to play a round of musical hotel rooms, change rooms three or four times during my stay. The staff ensured me the rooms were checked prior and one of the "New" rooms having visible mold and a moldy musty odor. Wallpaper and paint was peeling and faded. The water was ice cold with NO hot water at all in all the rooms that I switched to which is totally inexcusable. The tub showers do not drain properly, and the bathrooms have no ventilation. On top of that, the air conditioning and heating system in the entire building was broken and malfunctioning, so I was either sweltering or freezing in a 80 or 66 degree room. Multiple items in the rooms were broken including the television bathroom mirror shower surround and doors. The sheets and bedding were not changed and were stained, and there was a limited supply of towels and no blankets. The "Fridge" is an absolute joke, didn't cool properly with no room for my leftovers, or anything but a couple bottles of water, and is about the size of a small Amazon package. The walls are paper towel thin and you can hear everything going on including conversations in nearby rooms and loud racket in the hallway. I have never been less comfortable in a hotel room before.
I had to call for the front desk at least a dozen times during my stay here and the so called "maintenance engineers" and only one of them spoke English. Each time I called the front desk with a concern, I was placed on hold for at least 30 minutes before being able to speak with someone.
The only redeeming part of my stay was the pleasant front desk staff, but that was the end of any positive experience I had. The restaurant food was well far below average, and expect to wait 60-90 minutes for your cold meal due to the staff shortage. Add in an extra 30 minutes to wait for your bill.
Overall, this hotel is in terrible shape, and I expected so much more from a business hotel never having been to Houston before. Its so bad and so outdated, and an embarrassment to the said high quality standards of IHG Hotels. If you're looking for a comfortable and professional place to stay, do yourself a favor, save your money and stay somewhere else! This place needs a complete remodel, new management, and a serious overhaul of their maintenance and methods of communication. The managers and owners need to be reading these reviews and take these concerns seriously. I will never stay at this hotel again and am hesitant to book another Crowne Plaza anywhere. The staff, however, were pleasant and try their best given all the negatives, discomfort, and unfortunate circumstances this hotel has to offer. This Crowne hotel is not worthy...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI'd love to know why IHG brands allows this property to still wear their label. I used to stay there A LOT, but after Christmas 2022 when they didn't have ANY heat in the building I committed to no more. They have had signs up for 3-4 years now that they are under renovation. They must be doing that with only one party, and no materials or money to work with. Renovation is supposed to have a start and end, where the end is not infinity.||Driving up on the building yields a sign that is half burned out, and it's just an indicator of what the guest is going to find inside. While they once were a full service hotel, only remnants of full services remain. There was no business center, the gift shop empty and boarded up, the garage elevators haven't worked since Jesus was in diapers, and the main elevators work now and then, but not on holidays, and there's no food on the menu in the restaurant.||The staff made a big deal out of putting me in one of their recently renovated rooms. It's hard to feel like they have done anything for me when it's cold enough in there to hang meat. If I didn't have many memories of what once was, I might not feel like so much is gone. But, they still advertise they are a full service hotel, and they areā¦as long as you don't want to use any full services.||The recent reports of people's cars being damaged, or broken into reveals the place is still heading for the ditch slowly. The franchisee clearly isn't spending anything caring for the property, and the IHG franchise quality police aren't doing anything to force them to fix it or take the brand off the building.||I still associate IHG with Kemmons Wilson, and what I expect to get from a real Holiday Inn, and this place is just a fraction of that. They once gave away parking, but now they charge the customer $25/day so they can come back and find their car is broken into, and the garage elevators don't work, and have been that way for years.||Any time I see a building allowed to rot this way leaves me wondering what ELSE they are not doing that's putting my safety at risk. It would surprise me none to learn the fire alarms aren't working, or that the boiler hasn't been inspected, as this is usually true when things the guest CAN see are so obviously being neglected.||I'd like to stay there going forward as the location is perfect for my needs, but I just can't lay my money on the counter for such a deception. I sure wouldn't want to work for them, having to smile and pretend I'm representing a reputable property that is actually delivering what they are advertising. This place needs to be closed, and boarded up until a complete new interior is installed, or advertise it for what it is, which is certainly not full-service and barely adequate for a full-service hotel. ||The reviews written about this place this year alone reveal that the same problems that were present in 2022 are still there, and the only thing different is they are wanting even more money for less services. I would consider them again if they would return the quality to what Crown Plaza, or Holiday Inn is supposed to be. They sure...

After communications over a number of days by email with the director of sales and marketing and director of rooms I was confident that our arrival for our 20th wedding anniversary would be memorable and that the promised champagne / wine and chocolates would be in place after over 18 hours of travel from the UK. I was heartbroken.
Our greeting at reception from a rude desk employee set the scene and it got worse from then on. Not only were none of the arrangements in place as promised (ruining both the surprise and our anniversary) the room was disgusting, had an unidentifiable smell and was dirty. Also the corridors and lifts reeked of cannabis.
We were booked for 3 nights and left the very next morning as whatever the smell was clearly wasn't healthy to be breathing in or sleeping in overnight.
On checking out the IHG employee was not surprised by us checking out and indicated that she agreed that the hotel was awful.
I have picked this up with the director of sales and marketing on our return and was sent the statement:
"We do understand how important acknowledgement and special occasions are to our guest" - Clearly they don't
I was also asked why we hadn't raised our upset at the time. My answer, OWTTA, was that I took it in good faith that when time is spent making arrangement these would be carried through as promised. I clearly had set too high of an expectation of the hotel and certainly wasn't prepared to make a fuss in front of my husband when the 'sruprise' arrangements relating to our 20th anniversary (which happens only once in a lifetime) were ignored and ruined.
The hotel response was "We do understand how important acknowledgement and special occasions are to our guest" - Clearly they don't or at least the staff in the roles given don't.
The hotel has since responded with a delivery of flowers to my home which in all honesty goes nowhere on the scale of putting right what was wrong. Our whole road trip from then one was overshadowed by this and our anniversary now passed with memories we would choose not to look back on sadly.
IHG themselves aren't interested, didn't respond to being ccd in emails after the event and had the cheek to ask how they did in responding to our issue with a feedback questionnaire??
Should you stay with Houston? I guess if every hotel in the area is full and there is no room on the streets but don't expect a welcome greeting, a clean or nice room or a pleasurable stay (even without a special occasion to celebrate).
My husband is an IHG one reward diamond elite member and reflected that this is hands down the worst hotel in the IHG group (worldwide) that he has ever come across (and that is an awful lot of hotels)
This hotel doesn't even warrant the 1 star rating I was forced to give to leave a review and certainly not the staff that...
