We used to eat at this place almost once a month, but stopped going a couple of years ago after a very unpleasant experience with inedible tough meat, and a server who was quite rude about it. Recently, we returned a few times because my family likes the Adona Kebab. But tonight's experience with the rudeness of the owner has made us cross this restaurant off our list permanently. As our food was being served, a janitor began cleaning the bathroom with a very strong smelling undiluted cleaning product (the bathroom opens onto the dining area, and he had the door open). When he finished cleaning the bathroom, he cleaned the food service area next to our table from where they serve the beer and deserts. The smell of the strong cleaning product was so overpowering, I lost my appetite, and had to step outside. The server was apologetic, and said that the smell was indeed too strong. However the owner insisted that they had to clean the bathroom, because "some people don't know how to use the bathroom" and it was soiled. I said that I understand that they have a job to do in cleaning the bathroom, but that the cleaning product was not being used properly, the door was opened, and that it was offensive to then begin using such a strong smelling cleaner in the food service area while people were eating. The owner doubted my description of the incident, and said that the janitor only cleaned the bathroom and not in the food service area (when I had watched him mopping in the food service area only moments before). The owner walked away saying that he would have to check his security cameras to find out what really happened! No apology for the unpleasant dining experience, he just offered me an argument about what I saw. What you read in these reviews about the rudeness of the owner was certainly true in my...

Read moreI'd like to start off by saying I fully support local establishments, and "Istanbul Grill" is no exception. First off let me start by saying the food is really good, if you're looking for good turkish "esk" cuisine, this can be a good spot, but it's not TRULY authentic, I've been to several much cheaper turkish options in Houston with much better tasting and more authentic turkish style cuisine. This establishment is more set towards a "bougie" demographic, as many are unfamiliar with many ethnic cuisines in the area it's in. Second, unless you're with a big group, do not expect to be treated that well, they'll serve your food like normal, but be prepared to wait a while before they come check on you. Unless you LITERALLY look or ARE a supermodel, they are going to take their sweet time before serving you or even bringing you the check. Third, now i'm MORE than aware of current market trends in restaurants, but with the price you pay for some of the dishes, they feel like they cheap out in some areas, especially bread and rice (side note, $2.50 for HALF a piece of bread is COMPLETELY unjustified) their bread and rice is really good, but they seriously overcharge. There will always be the people who say (you're just broke) etc. that's beside the point and I'm fairly well off, but I'd never genuinely come back to this establishment unless it was of the choice of a friend or family member. Lastly, their dessert options are actually really good, HIGHLY recommend the sütlaç (rice pudding), comforting finisher to a meal, and perfect in every sense of the dish. My total rating would be a 6.3/10 for...
