Let me start with I am super disappointed that my second photo did not load included the waffle bowl in perfect sunlight. Spotty internet connection. I will have to try to recreate.
First visit included Bramble berry, Cognac Gingerbread (yes, it is as tasty as it sounds), and Brown Butter Almond Toffee.
Second visit was Eggnog, and White Chocolate Peppermint in a waffle bowl.
When you walk in the intoxicating smell of sweet batter and butter being turned into a waffle cone/bowl draws you in on a cloud of salivary heaven. If you take a moment you can sort out the smell of cream and sugar being turned into a wonderful array of delightful and taste-bud enchanting flavors. You get to try these flavors on a real spoon; super tiny, but real so it doesn't mask the flavors with the taste of plastic.
Each flavor that was tried had the taste of real ingredients, not flavors concocted in a lab to simulate what someone thought was the taste of that product. There are real berries in the berry ice cream, real almond in the almond ice cream, etc.
The Ice Cream has an incredible full cream mouthfeel to it meaning that it is smooth, robust, and rich. Out of all the small batch, "local," all natural, and housemade ice cream I have tried in the greater Houston area this one is the most satisfying and truthful with its claims.
The one slight downfall was the bowl, I enjoyed the Waffle in a small piece seen in the picture, when it came to the full bowl, it had WAAAAAAY too much butter in it. If you knew me you know there is never too much butter, until now. It was also a touch over cooked, had the taste of almost burnt, maybe that was scalded butter. Someone needs to be assigned to keeping the cafe area tidy.
The servers are friendly and helpful. You just need to overcome the euphoria of waffles and creamed milk and sugar to hear their...
Read moreThis is my absolute favorite ice cream! Not my first visit to a Jeni’s. I was looking forward to the tangy, sweet creaminess of the lemon blueberry topped off with the butteriest sweet salty waffle bowl on the planet. The bowl didn’t seem fresh and had a slight unexpected abnormal aftertaste. Please, please, please allow your taste buds the honor of this treat of a lifetime! I visited pretty early in the day, but the only atmosphere that was set was that the young lady at the counter showed that she really didn’t want to be at work on a beautiful Saturday morning. Her attitude was short and snappy. She was trying to rush me into deciding on a flavor literally 2 seconds after I walked through the door. I was the only customer! As I looked into to cases to see my choices, she said “They all have the same thing in them.” I noticed the last cast had 3 additional flavors that the other 2 cases didn’t. I nicely made her aware of it and picked one of the hidden flavors I had found. She showed her disdain and proceeded to scoop me the smallest portions of Jeni’s ice cream I had ever seen! This was truly the worst interaction at any Jeni’s location I’d ever encountered and was a great disappointment. The taste of the ice cream and waffle bowl was the recovery. My overall suggestion is to visit a different location during a slightly busier time to avoid to the chance of getting a day old waffle bowl and I also guess you shouldn’t prove the person helping you wrong with their lack of product...
Read moreOh, where do I even churn, I mean turn, to describe the icy wonders that unfolded at Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream on 19th Street in The Heights? It was like stepping into a dairy tale where every scoop had its own story!
First off, the "scent-sation" that greeted us was just waffle-cone-derful. The aroma of freshly made waffle cones was the olfactory overture to a symphony of flavors. It was "a-scoop-tionally" dreamy and set the tone for what was to come.
My husband got the Milkiest Chocolate and Salted Caramel. One taste, and he was "udderly" entranced. The Milkiest Chocolate was a cocoa-nspiracy of rich, creamy depth, and the Salted Caramel had him "caramel-plating" a lifetime of happiness with Jeni's.
Our friend Kasia went for the Gooey Butter Cake, and oh, it was a "scoop-tacle" of flavor! Truly "a-butter-time," it was so good that she declared it her new "but-ter half." Yes, it was that delicious. She'd certainly order again, no "butter-fingers" about it.
Now, as for me, I’m usually "cream-skeptical" because I don't really like ice cream. So I opted for a root beer. While it wasn't the "star-scoop" of the evening, it provided a refreshing "root-prise" and fit the "fizz-ical" criteria I was seeking.
To sum it all up, Jeni's isn't just an ice cream parlor; it's a "flavor-town" where even the non-ice-cream lovers among us can find a "sipp-le" joy. Would I recommend it? In a...
