Of all the great Mexican restaurants in Houston, this La Tapatia on S. Gessner is my favorite. The food is always very fresh, prepared well, and presented nicely from the appetizers to the sizzling fajitas and everything in between. The atmosphere is very warm, comfortable, and accommodating, whether singing Happy Birthday to a customer you never met or watching your favorite sports on the many TV's and cheering with a fellow fan at the bar. But what really keeps me coming back besides the food and margaritas is the service. All of the wait staff is so friendly and attentive, whether dining at a table or booth or being wonderfully taken care of by Adry when sitting at the bar. But what really shines and stands out is the manager, Ponce. He is so attentive, friendly and makes sure all of you and your guests' needs are met and with a smile. He introduces himself, checks on you and your party, makes sure you are being taken care of by the staff, and checks on the kitchen. He is the glue that holds it all together. He also jumps in and will wait on tables or bar customers when the place gets really busy, which is rare these days, even in 5-star establishments. He is always so nice and friendly and will make sure you have an enjoyable experience. Besides everything else, Ponce keeps me...

Always have been a big fan of La Tapatia at Richmond and Chimney Rock location. We found that there was another location closer to where we live off of Gessner and Westpark so we were excited to pay a visit.

We were seated and had our drinks order taken right away by a waitress with red hair. Another waitress walked up a few minutes later to take our drink order again and she did not speak English. We got our “special” margaritas almost 10 minutes later. Not only that they came with salt(we asked for no salt) and looked nothing like the picture they advertised but one came up 1/3 empty and another almost half empty and they charge $8.99 for each. We returned them and asked for regular house margarita on the rocks with no salt and asked for our water again. The waitress with red hair was very apologetic but she obviously was not our waitress. Another 10 minutes later, we still did not get our water, our waitress never came back.

We left $3 in cash to cover a sprite and left. I guess we should have stuck with our usual location. Very...

Top 5 worse restaurants I've ever eaten at the food was horrible at best. I had chicken tacos ground beef and shrimp plus beef enchiladas. The chicken was lightly seasoned with not much flavor at all. The beef tacos had no flavor and were very plain I mean no spices. The shrimp was the weakest frozen shrimp you could eat very basic and plain. Now, these beef enchiladas were the worse I've ever in my life eaten for one they had potatoes and carrots I mean I've never in my life had enchiladas with potatoes I mean I spit it out immediately and demanded a refund. The waitress from jump acted like she had an attitude with us and have us poor service. The manager came out to see what was wrong with our food and I told him he got an attitude and said we have been making it like this for 20-something years. I've never been to a Mexican restaurant where they put potatoes and carrots in the enchiladas. Overall the worse experience from a...

So the chicken medallions should be a signature dish! I'm so thankful I tried something out of the ordinary for myself. This dish has chicken breast stuffed with spinach, cheese and ham. It's cooked to perfection .I'm not a huge fan of chipotle sauce so I asked for it to be placed aside. This chipotle has a kick to it bc it has ranch omg talk about delicious, I smothered my chicken with it!. On the table they don't give you the green salsa you'd have to ask the waiter for it it's so super good! Queso was too watery for my taste. The kids drinks looked like small coffee cups and looks tacky. This place is kid friendly, huge nice cool and clean. Our waitress Maria O. Lopez was patient and kind. I will come back without my children to take a seat at the bar area it's huge. So on margarita taste I give it a 10 on michelada also a 10 what's outstanding is the beer is super cold and glass also perfect for Texas weather in August.

First time trying this place. We had the shrimp tacos and the shrimp enchiladas. Those tacos came with a heaping serving if guacamole and were very delicious. They also have some of the spiciest salsa I've had from a restaurant in a while. So if you can't handle the heat, definitely take it easy on the complimentary chips and salsa. They are also open for breakfast 7 days a week at 8 am, which sounds enticing as well. We only gave this place 4 stars because of our server. She had a little bit of an attitude and seemed to rush us while ordering, despite the restaurant not being super busy. Definitely worth giving this place a try though.

I drive past this restaurant all the time and finally decided to give it a try! As you walk your greeted by a friendly face..the restaurant its self is very nice.. nice appointments to the decor huge mural on the walls.. and I'm fully stocked far. Huge selections to be made from their menu appetizers soups salads grilled items and Specialty entrees. I enjoyed the beef enchiladas with refried beans and Spanish rice my son enjoyed the beef fajita quesadillas... everything was very tasty had to pack up and take some home.
