If you’re the type who loves to go out to eat for breakfast and loves breakfast foods any time of day, a good choice of places to dine is Midtown Bar & Grill. This dining establishment serves breakfast all day long and is a favorite of those who can’t get enough eggs, bacon, toast, sausage, etc.
Midtown Bar & Grill has an outdoor patio/porch section and an interior which isn’t quite as climate controlled as I prefer. It has been a little warmer than I like on the times I have visited. The dining section is simple, with nothing about it that really stands out. There is a second level too which, I assume, is used for private events.
With the food, breakfast is what this establishment is known for, but there is much more than that. You can order soup, sandwiches, entrees, burgers, and so on. They have a full bar, too, so you can have a cocktail or beer with your food, for a complete meal.
I have found the food served here generally good. It’s not the best in town, but it is served fast and the prices are more than fair. There have also been occasional mishaps with the service. The last time I was here, I never received the drink I ordered and had to ask my server to adjust the bill. Plus, they mixed up the orders among the people in my dining party.
One other positive is parking. They have their own lot, and that means, unlike with some other Houston area restaurants, you won’t have to drive around the neighborhood looking for a place to park. Another tip: The large sign you see next to the parking lot, with Midtown Bar and Grill’s name on it, is placed adjacent to another establishment. Midtown Bar & Grill is on the opposite side of the sign.
It’s nice when you find a restaurant that serves breakfast all day long. Midtown Bar & Grill is great for this purpose, but it’s an average restaurant overall. The inconsistent service, plain interior, and other factors add up to an acceptable place for dining in Houston, but...
Read moreI just visited this place for the first and last time this morning. We arrived at 8:30am. My friend and I was served lukewarm water in cloudy cups. So we asked for alternative drinks(coffee and orange juice). The Hispanic witness was not pleasant and was not confident in her job duties . My friend asked “how much will it be to add additional toppings” Her response “ 2.00 but I really don’t know, I have to see what the computer says”. It was like pulling teeth to get her to check the actual price. So we ordered the food. Food arrived at 9:14am. My friend took a picture of the food. I looked down and noticed a hair on my pancakes(pictured). We told her it was hair...she act like she didn't see it at first . She Took the plate to the back and came back with it saying I checked the ladies in the the back and its not theirs So we asked where did the hair come from, she say maybe it's yours. I asked how is it mine when my hair is in a ponytail away from my face. You on the hand. No hair net, gloves or mask for that matter with bangs on your forehead. So continue to say we fixing new pancakes while still accusing me putting hair in my food. At this point, I am insulted so I said I was leaving and never coming back because she refused to bring out the manager because she stated she was the manager. I advised her to do better and I would...
Read moreFinally was able to attend our singing group indoors in the private dining room. Everyone was fully vaccinated as I am. We had drinks and snacks brought to us. These were both alcoholic and nonalcoholic, all done well.
I had dinner before the group and listened to another music group rehearse in a smaller area. When not eating, Midtown uses distancing and masks which I applaud.
The restaurant has an outdoor patio but that night we had very heavy rain threatening and naturally it hit just when I needed to leave. It was worth getting damp.
The food is typical diner food plus some nice Greek food, seafood, pasta and pizza. There's a wide choice of sandwiches which includes gyros, and quite good burgers. Vegetarian diners have a decent set of options including a range of vegetable options for anyone. A veggie plate has four choices plus above average rolls and cornbread.
This visit I had the meal I allow myself once or twice a year: liver and onions. Midtown never disappoints me with this. Neither do the Greek dishes. I especially recommend the sweet potato fries as a side.
Best of all, you can always go if the impulse strikes you because they are open 25/7. Breakfast is served anytime of day or night but checkout the early...
