this art experience is like nothing else in houston, and everyone should stop in for a long drink of soul inspiration. franny koelsch-jeffries is the owner and curator of the long-running koelsch gallery (1994). the gallery, also offered as koelsch haus, has been responsible for connecting locals with art and inspired designs that are thought-provoking, unexpected, and masterfully crafted.
the gallery now features a line of clothing, 'ears of buddha', designed by franny, inspired by her father, and produced locally. expect to see wearable pieces in crisp fabrics that will set you apart.
i have attended one recent event, the re-launch in late May 2019, and had a chance to interact with the artists themselves, like the talented claire cusack. my favorite pieces, which speak to societal norms and gender roles, were from donna rosenthal. jen blazina's voice is articulated with her found objects, representing both the past and present. many other artists are featured, too many to describe in this review.

my favorite motto was presented on a poster at the re-launch: "art saves"-...
Read moreFantasticly beautiful Heights location with free residential street parking. I appreciate this Gallery more every time I visit. The Art, Jewelry and Clothing absolutely glow with the natural light from the big windows and the gorgeous gallery lighting. A feast for the eyes and not too hard on the pocketbook - many high quality works are priced under $500. Been visiting this Gallery for almost 20 years and I am never disappointed with the works they choose to spotlight, elevate and champion. This is the view from the parking lot of the Vet Clinic across the street. I sort of always illegally park here when I visit after Vet Clinic hours. This is one of many "shadow box style" framed collage/assemblage by the incredible Artist Ellen Tuchman, 10x10", priced at $450. A steal for an Artist who commands far higher prices for her far more intricate and larger compositions. So cool that a Gallery such as Koelsch is right here in Houston, Texas for us...
