I wanted to try a new place in the area for lunch. Segundo was a big mistake, my first and last time here. The girl taking orders mumbled and barely spoke. I ordered two brisket tacos and a black tea. The mumbling girl pulled my pre-made "brisket" tacos from a warmer. What I saw when I opened the wrapper appeared to be a breakfast taco. It was full of refried beans and eggs. I checked the foil wrappers. Both were labeled brisket. Both were full of refried beans and eggs... OK. I like breakfast tacos and was too hungry to fool with questioning anything.
These tacos were the worst that I've ever eaten. Gross. I reluctantly ate one because I was so hungry, took a bite out of the other and threw it away. They were soggy and barely warm from being in a warmer too long. There was no brisket, only a barely detectable hint of BBQ flavor on my refried beans and eggs, both of which were pretty much tasteless. Yack.
The dining area was pretty cool. I was going to hang out and chill for a while before returning to work. I went to get a tea refill and was informed that refills were not free, that I had to wait in line and pay another ($3.50?) to fill my cup full of ice with a little bit of tea. No hang out and chill for me. That was it. Enough. I pitched my cup of ice in the trash and left.
These guys are highly rated. Maybe their coffee is good, IDK, but their food and...
Read moreCame here after seeing it during searches for coffee shops nearby. I finally came after also seeing it on the Latin Restuarant Week for Houston.
It's a large coffeehouse inside of a renovated warehouse in the historic 2nd Ward/EaDo. The place is Latina owned which is what initially drew me here. After coming, I have zero regrets!
First of all, this place is massive. On the first floor they have at least 20-30 tables that each sit multiple people. A good number of them are near outlets and no one was fighting over them. There's also a CBD shop on the first floor. On the second floor there are some boutiques stocked with work from local artists and creators (like @cargovintagehouston on ig).
I asked if they had a special for the Latin Restaurant Week and they pointed me to the Mexican Torta and La Mexicana Latte. I went with the latte, a honey, cinnamon, and vanilla mix. It was fantastic. One of the best drinks I've had from coffee shops.
Workers were nice. Wifi is reliable. Ambience was cool and perfect for just about any situation.
I will definitely be back and will try their food...
Read moreUnfortunately was disappointed by this place. I loved that there was so much seating for working. Comfortable and spacious. However, the coffee and food I ordered left something to be desired. Got a cappuccino with oat milk and unfortunately it had the taste of acidity that happens with plantbased milks sometimes where the milk separates/curdles. Multiple issues with my food order. Ordered toasts and the toppings were mixed up (also disnt love how white the bread was for the toast, though the everything seasoning on the avocado was delicious). Toppings i ordered for my overnight oats (which, by the way, was the best thing we ordered!! Yum) were incorrect. Also got a vegan tamale which was really good, but took 30 minutes to come out. It seemed like the person taking orders was incompletely trained maybe. Was glad i tried this place, and like what theyre trying to do, but I wouldn’t rush back at this point until the coffee is better & the communication/inefficiencies...
