Update May 2022
Can I give this restaurant 6 stars?
Update September 2021:
Tapester's stayed open through the pandemic, adding outdoor tables and improving their to-go game. We visited them about once a quarter, opting to sit outside. Today, mid-morning, the inside tables were empty so we ate in there. They have remained consistently excellent in terms of taste, quality, service and cleanliness, so I upgraded my rating to 5 stars, probably later than I should have.
A comment about today's order: We had avocado toast that comes on amazing educational star rye bread (with caraway seeds, which we love but isn't everybody's favorite) and perfect over easy eggs on each thick slice of toast. It is a generous meal before adding optional protein (crispy chicken, bacon, smoked salmon, etc.) . I took half home half for later, my wife and I both lamenting we couldn't finish. We also tried their breakfast tacos, and they were bursting with flavor.
I don't think about Tapester's often enough, because their menu often has something i'm craving, whether sinfully sweet, sinfully savory, or nicely healthy. I promise to do better...
The old review from 2018:
Good fresh food nicely prepared. Casual. Menu can be quite sinful, but with a bit of care, one can get low carb, Paleo, and vegetarian meals. Coffee is great. Brunch available on weekends and breakfast tacos are very good and reasonably priced.
Family-run. Good food. ...
Read moreUPDATE: I had already given this place a 5-star review (see below). I feel the need to update my review due to (1) trying more menu items, (2) experiencing especially excellent customer service.
(1) Everything I've tried here is great, but I particularly recommend the nachos, burgers, and the Texas Scramble.
(2) Once I ordered a Jalapeno Burger for pickup, and they realized after I'd left that they'd left off the fried jalapenos. They called me to tell me, I drove back (even though I was almost home), and they gave me the jalapenos as well as a small gift card and complimentary desert. Even considering the extra driving I had to do, this felt like a more-than-generous compensation for their mistake, and it was greatly appreciated. This is a small business that values its regular customers.
ORIGINAL REVIEW:
The best nachos around.
Really, everything here is great, but the nachos are the standout for me. It really is a "mountain" of "loaded" nachos. You get 3-4x as much food as the nachos at Pappasito's--for the same price. Also better than the Mexican restaurants down Main St. near 610. Same for Molina's, Antonio's, etc. Probably the best nachos in the inner loop.
I just wished they opened earlier and...
Read moreI couldn’t decide what to get here everything looked so good! I went with the bananas foster waffle and I did not regret it. They came with a caramel sauce. My wife got the breakfast with two eggs, sausage, hash browns, bread, and gravy. The bread and gravy was too much for her, but I wish we’d have taken that gravy to-go home with us!
I was happy with my choice of bananas foster. I loved the caramel sauce the waffles were served with, too. I only wish there had been more bananas. I also ordered the chai and it was so good I drank it most of it before my food was served. I especially loved the giant coffee cup it was served in. They also had TVs on and a cute Instagrammable wall.
We saw two different large tables of seniors — one talking about art, the other playing games. There were additional reserved tables, too. We were all served by Natalie who was just the sweetest. I also really loved how this place had a drive-thru. I’m not on this side of town often, but I’ll definitely be back here the...
