I am betting I will get to come back and change this to a 5* review. There are MANY things I like about this place. It's been here since 1983. I ate here once in 1987. I have eaten a LOT of places, but few I remember after over 40 years. It's a low key, casual atmosphere. Prices are very reasonable. Some combos are less expensive than I have seen on fast food menu's, and i guarantee the food here is MUCH higher quality. I would rather support a long run local family establishment than a fast food chain any day.
What I did not like.
The hamburger buns were very sweet. Sweet enough I wonder if they are Hawaiian Sweet ones. Which a LOT of people love, I'm just not overly fond of. Next time I will ask if they have any bread alternatives, perhaps they have Texas Toast they could put it on for me, or I can stand to intake less carbs, I can always do a burger open faced or as a patty melt...but now the thought of it on Texas Toast is really appealing!
I also did not like the fries. They were very greasy and floppy and flaccid. I rarely eat in and I often take fries home and reheat them in my air fryer. That gets grease off and can make them crispy. However, they were closing when I got here, so maybe the fries are not normally served this way.
I chatted with a couple who came in after me. They told me the fish sandwich here is amazing, and it is on different bread so I may try that next time. They also said this place has the best onion rings. I don't eat onions, but that may be useful for someone.
Overall I am happy and will return...in less than 40 years! Will update when I do. I am uploading a couple pictures. I am sure my burger looks boring to most, but they DO come with the veggies...I just don't like my salad...
Read moreI was in the mood for a burger but not a drive-thru burger so I asked Google for best burgers near me. Texas Hamburger Palace was right around the corner from the office and had good reviews. So my co-worker and I headed out. The inside was actually larger than I expected. Old time decor that had a perfect burger joint feel to it. I got the blue cheese burger w/fries. My co-worker got the old fashion combo. Price wise was more expensive than my local Burger Barn but less than Red Robin. My burger was blah my co-worker shared that thought. The tomatoes were not ripe. The blue cheese was loaded on the burger (not in a good way) and normally that would result a great flavor but this blue cheese may have not been the best, was old or low quality. The burger itself needed basic salt and pepper. However, the fries were good. The kind with just enough potato skin on the ends that made you want to believe they are fresh (but let's be clear they are not In-N-Out). These are probably frozen not fresh cut but they do season them we'll and taste awesome. I wasn't wowed by my food like the reviews so I wanted to give this place another try. I went back about a week ago and ordered the Philly cheese steak w/ fries to go. Loved everything about the sandwich except the steak. Again this needed salt and pepper. The steak was cut in giant slices and not thin at all or small. Extremely fatty and was just the wrong cut if beef for a cheese steak. I feel like it was skirt steak with to much membrane left on it. The consistency was all wrong for a cheese steak. But the fries...
Read moreOne day I decided to pick a direction and just drive and pick a random place for lunch. That's how I ended up here. It would be an easy place to miss, but they seemed to be doing brisk business.
I picked a random item off the menu, the Buffalo burgers and fries. While ordering I noticed one of the people working the grill was dressed in a US Postal Service uniform, and she was not using gloves. A little weird, but I ordered anyway.
The burger came quickly. I'm not sure what made it a "buffalo" burger, as it seemed like a cheeseburger with just a bunch of pickles and onions. The burger was adequate, but nothing special. I would imagine it is reliable, and they're generous with toppings, so it could be worse. The fries were mediocre, but not atypical for a burger joint.
Oh, that postal worker working the grill? As I was there she walked out of the kitchen with her food, and climbed into a mail truck, then took off. I'm still not sure what happened there. Was she a customer, or...?
Atmosphere appears to be going for icehouse, with random signs thrown in for good measure. Except they do not seem to serve alcohol, so that's a weird choice. Seating was ample, albeit dirty.
