I placed an online order yesterday. It was my first visit.
The online order system is easy to navigate and this is partly due to the limited choices you have to make.
I ordered the Chongquin Chicken and Tofu. I selected curbside as my option. Once you complete the payment then you will see an option for Waze and a pin 📍. I don’t use or need Waze. I arrived at the restaurant around 5pm, I decided that the Tofu sitting in a box would get soggy and I decided to go inside and at least try the Tofu. There was plenty of parking at that time. I approached the cashier and told him what I decided to do. He was friendly. I then sat at bar area, this wait was about 25 minutes and 10 minutes than the order said it would be ready. The cashier looked for my ticket and then told the expeditor what I was doing. Lots of employees moving around, I really was never acknowledged and at a few times, I felt ignored. The restaurant was about 10% occupied. They do a huge delivery service business, only a few people stopped in like I did to pick up. There was a lady there that was asked at least 6 times her name, and although I was next to her, nothing from anyone else was asked of me. At some point I decided to ask about my order and they guy found it and it seemed liked it had just been placed there. The restaurant is nice, clean, not really a place to eat in at, this location may not ever be that due to size. The Tofu was okay, but since I didn’t read the preparation method correctly, it’s no one’s fault. I prefer fried Tofu and pan fried isn’t the same texture. The dipping sauce was good. The restaurant has a few bottles of soy and chili oil, nothing else, especially no napkins available.
I brought the rest of my order home and my first impression is that they give you a lot of food. I ordered the noodles, nothing special, if they would just toss some veggies in it, it could be better. The chicken egg roll was good. Frozen and fried. Not made in house.
The first bite of the Chongquin chicken was spicy, but it was instant and it made my tongue numb. It seemed like it was missing much depth. It took me three times to eat these two dishes. I air fried the Tofu and it was much better.
Ease of online ordering 5/5 Curbside Pickup 3/5, signage may help. Friendly staff 4/5 Taste 4/5 Heat level 5/5 Value 5/5
I liked everything, I was not wowed with anything. Would I return ? Right now leaning towards 3/5
I will give them another chance, because I may have simply not ordered the most popular...
Read moreSo I ordered from the rice box as I normally do however I order a little before closing through Uber eats as it’s just at the next light. Normally I’m pleased food is normally hot and tasteful. tonight I was not and I’m not sure if it’s because they were closing but if that’s the case just refund the money and don’t make the order I literally paid almost $45 for Yang Chow Fried Rice “Beef & Shrimp” Extra Spicy as well as Lo Mein “beef & Shrimp” extra spicy my Lomein literally tasted like it had absolutely no spice at all just soy or whatever brown sauce they use even the broccoli was bland and shrimp extra extra white they over do the beef which was dry and old looking and put very very little shrimp. like I normally like their food however tonight I wasn’t pleased. The rice came extra spicy but the noodles they could have kept especially paying almost $25 for something that doesn’t have anything but a soy taste with no type of spice at all. Also paid for extra duck sauce and left in the notes as I always do. To please have the cup replaced with the packets as I do not like the cup duck sauce they provide it is absolutely nasty to me. It will go in the trash. They absolutely didn’t follow the instructions for my lo mein and still sent the nasty cup sauce instead of packets. In the past 3 weeks I promise Ive ordered there at least 10 times I have 2 uber eats account so whichever phone I grab is the account I use. I’m so disappointed that because they were closing they didn’t care about the customer enough to prepare the food as listed on the order. Lomein and rice also came barely warm and very dry looking as if it was already sitting there and they added spice to the rice and forgot to add it to the Lomein. Yeah they may not receive my business for quite some time. If yall are at the next light as I’m on memorial Dr @ Sheppard and I have to put my food in the microwave to heat it up. I’ll order else where. I wish this food was as heated as I...
Read moreI have visited the Rice Box before and really like the food and atmosphere. We were a bit put off by this visit though when I brought a friend and my sister, who had never been before. First, I think the food is a great value. Everything tastes high quality and is very tasty, and you get a lot of food for the price. The first thing that put us off were that most of the prices were missing from the menu. This was not a case of us not seeing the main prices, as the menu described, it was obvious the prices had been removed on most of the items. That's not helpful to customers, and my friend who had never been was concerned. I like that they have thai tea on tap,but think it's a bit strange they only sell other drinks bottled. The Thai tea was also watery, and not as good as my previous visit. Next, no one greeted us or seemed very friendly when we ordered. They weren't rude per say, but they just didn't really acknowledge us. Between the 3 of us, 2 tickets, we spent over $55. This is not a complaint on the prices, as we got a ton of food, but after eating my friend asked for a plastic container for her noodle dish and eggroll as her meal came in a traditional paper "rice box." We had a long drive home back to Spring, and then Cypress, so she was worried her saucy noodles would leak in the car. The woman behind the counter seemed bothered when my friend asked for a to go container, and then told her it was .50 cents for a plastic lidded container. My friend's check was $26, and they couldn't give her a plastic container so her saucy noodles wouldn't leak? Seems a bit petty, and honestly it seems like that dish should come in a plastic container to begin with. She is less forgiving than I, and said she probably wouldn't return because of the experience. That was a bummer, and really marred hers and my sister's first experience at a place I normally...
