Update: 7/2/17
So I tried to call in an order for some chips and queso and course the first thing I'm told is thank you for calling Torchy's Tacos can I put you on hold for a minute. I was put on hold for 10 minutes and then hung up on so I had to call back where I was asked to be put on hold again. I told her no since I was around the corner and wanted some chips and queso which should be done in 5 minutes. She act like she had to ask somebody because apparently it takes more than 5 minutes for some chips and queso and hung up on me again. This is the worst Torchy's Tacos I've ever been to and Shepherd's location is so much better. Even the new location down Westheimer is better and it just opened. Was trying to get something quick to eat all since I was passing through and wanted some chips and queso but apparently this isn't the stop for it. Still pathetic in speed and service a year later. The food tastes just as good if not better at the other locations in case anyone else wonders.
Old: As a worker getting food for others it's okay. As a customer, terrible, so I can understand why people would send others to save time. Especially during the evenings. The food is pretty good. Just that it can take up to 20 minutes to get your food so food timing is about 20, which is decent, but ordering time is terrible. If you call in your food to pick it up they have a high, and I mean an at least 10 minute hold high, chance of forgetting you're there and you might get hung up on. Unless you call back to tell them you were already just on hold and they hung up. And you're literally there standing in line looking at them. They don't see you, but they're rude anyways just because you tell them you were just on hold for 10 and they hung up on you after you heard something said. Sooooo, it's mediocre service, but good food. If you're looking to kill time and aren't in a...
Read moreHaving lived in Austin, TX for the last 20 years, I had only eaten at Torchy's Tacos Burnet Rd location twice and neither was memorable. Now, there's one next door to my cigar shop in Rice Village here in Bellaire, TX. First, it is hugely successful with tons of Rice University students and urban professionals beating a path to their door for yummy tacos. I remember a decade ago the space was a Italian restaurant known for its amazing happy hour, but out with the old and in with the new, basically giving the people what they want, and what they want is imaginative tacos with zesty tangy ingredients. The menu is compact with about 12 creative taco selections, slightly overpriced, small, but full of spicy ingredients and tangy flavor. What I noticed was the assortment of great sauces that actually take the taco to the next level compared to normal green or red sauce. So venturing over with a friend on a cold winter's night, it was a revelation, how good the tacos were. The service is good (a manager came by the table and checked on us-a nice touch). But, taken as a whole it's a nice experience, especially as a date spot. All the restaurants are small, even in Austin, with limited outdoor seating. I think compared to Chipotle and taco trucks, I find Torchy's to be a consistent franchise, even with this store in Houston. It's a stones throw from Rice University's campus and affluent Bellaire; this is a fad that's not passing anytime soon. Wish I had thought of it first.
Would have gotten 5 stars, but truthfully with such great ingredients, the tacos are too small for...
Read moreI gave this restaurant a second try and again bad bad service from the front staff and BOTH times got sick after eating the food here.
First time I came here with my fiancé was about 3 months ago. We were so excited to finally try this place everyone raves about. They have shirts for sale in the front and I wanted to order one but the cashier said they didn’t have anymore and probably weren’t getting any more in any time soon....
Why have shirts for sale and not have it in stock? That was disappointing they should have just removed the shirt that they don’t have in stock from the sales mannequin.
We ordered our food, it came out in a decent time but $4.70 per taco? For the amount of meat and the cheap tortilla I wasn’t impressed at all. The meat and tacos didn’t really taste all that great. Nice presentation but no amazing flavors to keep me wanting more.
Today came back to try to see if things got better, unfortunately no. Right when I walked in the front cashier wasn’t pleasant to anyone, and she came off as if she didn’t want to be there. I asked how long for the to go order I just placed and she said I don’t know maybe 15 minutes.
15 minutes for two tacos? Ok, went to wait in my car. Came back in 15 minutes still not ready. She forgot my name and came back out ten minutes later with my order. It wasn’t a pleasant experience. My tacos weren’t hot and I got a stomach ache again from eating here. Not sure what’s wrong with the meat but I won’t be coming to this...
