This breakfast was outstanding. Fresh biscuits, fruit, omelette station, you name it. The staff was warm and welcoming, considering I arrived 10 minutes before the doors opened at 7:00 am. Tommy, my incredible, attentive, patient waiter, and Justin, the restaurant manager: thank you for making my day and apologies for this lengthy speech as if I am up for an Oscar...
To those who took the time to give one or two stars for the Walker Street Kitchen, purely off of the food selection, please rethink your expectations around service. A restaurant owned and operated by a multi-billion dollar corporation could not care less about whether or not the bacon was crispy enough for your liking. Consider the thought that your review most likely affects the wait staff more than it could ever affect the price point of a cup of coffee. It's the Marriott, and there's a Starbucks around the corner. Hell, there's a cheaper coffee shop in the lobby of the hotel.
Inappropriate behavior aside, interactions with service workers of all kinds could run much smoother if we applied more empathy to how we view others. There's a good chance that restaurant employees who are "slow, confused, or impersonal" are burdened by a shortage of staff, mediocre pay, uncertainty around professional growth, etc. Those working in the service industry face the additional pressure of knowing that any customer can subjectively ridicule the worker, aspects of the job the worker cannot control, or anything else that comes to mind at any time, publicly.
If your one time at Walker Street was so terrible that you took time out of your day to leave a review, try using that time to contact the Marriott. Or ask questions about the team member, the general conditions of the establishment, anything routed in kindness before writing a review just to vent. Or, better yet, leave a more generous tip or use an open forum to improve the deeper issue at hand instead of "helping" any future customer who might seriously consider the Marriott for a...
Read moreNot sure why this place had a 3.9 review rating. Despite the low reviews, we decided to give Walker Street Kitchen a try (Mostly because they were close to home to be completely transparent). We enjoyed the onbionce when we first walked in. It was inviting and set up very elegant in appearance. We asked to sit away from others after walking in the heat in downtown Houston and the hostess had no issue with the request. The drink lady came immediately to take our drink orders and was very prompt in returning with our beverages. Our waitress was extremely courteous and nice. She took her time explaining to us how the Brunch works and then gave us time to review our options. She returned in a good amount of time considering she was the only server waiting on 4 tables (one with a large group of 8). Our drinks never hit bottom the entire time we were there. We did pay over $50 but it was worth it considering we had an large array of choices to choose from and not to mention the food was very good (even the frozen turkey patties). So bottom line, Good Service, Good Food, equals a...
Read moreI was staying at the hotel with my cousin for her work trip. Getting seated was fine and the meal was fine even though it a long time for 2 pancakes and I had to request different pancakes because they gave me the wrong order. When it came time for the check. It took forever for someone to take my card. When I finally flagged one of the staff down to pay for my check, it took 30 mins to get my card back. I had to flag another staff member down again to find out what was taking so long to get my card back. They couldn't find my card. Turns out one of the staff members delivered it to the wrong table and my card was sitting with unknown people for who knows how long. I understand people my have bad days but when your credit card information is sitting with people you don't know that's where I draw the line. So I have to request a new card because I don't know if the people who had my card wrote down my information or not. After everything the food was delicious and I just don't like my personal information just being carelessly put infront of...
