Just had a really poor experience with Hunyh. I am actually shocked because my family and I have been going to this place for more than a decade.
My wife and I generally order the same thing. That is vegetable fried rice with tofu and no egg..
Tonight I attempted to locate that item on the menu but, was unable too due to some changes made to the menu. I told the guy taking my order what I wanted. When I told him that he responded that the item I wanted had egg in it. This confused me. So I pointed out what I thought was the item I normally order on the menu. This ended up being a different item.
I live about 10 minutes away thus, I did not check the order until returning home. Once my wife and I checked the order and discovered it was wrong I immediately called and explained the situation. The gentleman who took my call was actually very friendly and accommodating. He explained to me that they can fix the issue and would have my correct order prepared upon my return.
Upon return the gentleman whom took my original order beckoned me over and then attempted to explain to me how he gave me what I ordered. When I attempted to explain to him that what I initially asked for was not what I received he then told me that I did not say that. I attempted to further clarify but, he insisted that I was incorrect and never offered an apology nor stated that it was a misunderstanding. At that point it became clear that they were not going to exchange my food for the item I normally order. I then asked for a refund. He obliged.
I called and asked to speak to the general manager in order to explain the situation. The woman whom answered told me that she is the GM and then literally proceeded to do the same thing the previous guy did. That is tell me how my order was wrong and that I did not ask for what I said that I asked for.
So now I am here. Sadly my family and I will no longer patronize Huynh after 10+ years of really good experiences there.
As someone who actually owns a business it was shocking to see people at a reputable restaurant respond to...
Read moreToday was my very first visit here. I was SO excited to try traditional Vietnamese food for the first time. Everyone was so friendly, nice and helpful. Except the waitress who took my order. I ordered what it said on the menu. She said, "idk what that is." It is not hard to say "tra da" in Vietnamese. When I asked her how to say it if I was wrong. She had a smirk on her face as if she thought I am not supposed to speak in any language except English. I am tri-lingual and working on being quad-lingual ma'am. She refused to say it. I then played it to my friend on a Vietnamese language site and I was exactly right. I have never had any Vietnamese person be rude to me. Idk if she is even Vietnamese. She had something written in what looked like Chinese (definitely not Vietnamese) on the back of her neck area. As she returned to the table, I wanted to ask where my order was, but told my friend I was afraid to say it because the waitress would get mad because I only know the dish by the Vietnamese name. I just said it by the number. We stopped asking her for what we needed and asked everyone else. They were all so friendly. I will go back because of them only. I really don't want to give a bad review due to 1 bad person, but she really needs to be talked to. I was very uncomfortable and actually almost walked out before I ordered. I had been looking forward to going here for 2 months to be treated like that by her. Everyone else made up for it. Thank you all for making us feel comfortable and made us smile again. The food was...

Huynh Restaurant Houston, TX $$
We looked for gems on our last trip to Houston but came up short. Once things settle down we'll give it another go! 😊
The Good: The restaurant itself was located near several bars, convenience stores and other restaurants. Looked clean upon entering and we were seated quickly.
The Bad: We ordered the bun combo which is my usual for a Vietnamese venue. The expectation was some fresh chopped lettuce, a bed of noodles, finely chopped carrot, peanuts, shrimp, pork and egg roll. (I nix the cilantro) At first glance, it looked like everything was right. Unfortunately, the pork tasted oily and a bit off. Not a great quality and not much flavor. The same treatment carried over to the egg roll. It was small and overly saturated with oil. Also, the silantro that I had asked to have left off was included in my plate. A very healthy heaping of it 😑. As a side note, our waitress never came back. (They weren't busy) but we saw her hanging out and chatting with other servers. We had to find someone to give up chopsticks and then had to find someone else to close us out.
The Aftermath: We were surprised because the reviews were pretty solid here. Most likely because it's a high foot traffic area. Some of our friends came in later that day to try and left disappointed as well. Aesthetically speaking, the food looks fine but the taste and service just wasn't...
