Westco Donuts — Restaurant in Houston

I dropped in for the first time in a long time today. Todays visit solidified me never returning.

Upon entering the place you are greeted by the usually stare...then.... "Hi, how can I help?" In the most "what da fuq you want?" tone and body language coming from a person with chronic RBF.

I was hurriedly badgered into ordering like it's a line out the door whilst being he only gawd damn customer in the place. I was hesitant to get anything as I saw fruit flies in the jelly donut area of the display case but eventually ordered a kolache and a dozen glazed. As I turned I saw a huge American cockroach walk from behind a table and make its way towards the front door. That freaked me out but I do understand that it's Texas and even the cleanest of homes/businesses will get an American or two.

Complete my transaction and notice the cockroach has now crawled up the door frame of the front door. I push it open slowly as not to have fly on me and as I start to walk out one of the ladies that was handling food behind the counter swats at it and eventually knocks it down with her gloved hand. I walk to my car and place the food on the roof and start to open my door. I see the same woman go directly back to her task without changing the damn gloves she touched a cockroach with seconds earlier.

I've been going here off and on since I was 9 years old but sadly today will likely be my last time going in there. I've never been treated so unkind. I get its a mom and pop shop but its just a dollar coffee and about helping the customer and making the moment right. I simply asked for either a refund or another small cup of black coffee because I couldn't drink the one I had. It was WAY too strong and not good after putting several creams and a couple sugar. She kept saying they can't or acted like I was blaming them. She was not friendly or accommodating whatsoever. I offered to give a dollar or the old one back so its not like I'm trying to take two but she said no and its not much of a compromise. Her and her mom just argued and wanted me to buy another drink and spoke very rudely. I've worked in customer service 10 years including a coffee shop and we do what's right for the customer or remake the drink not adamantly refuse to...

I came in early around 6am to grab a couple donuts and kolaches. While the kolaches were fine, I had a really disappointing experience with the eclairs. I specifically pointed at the fresh ones in the display, but the staff member went to the back and came out with a bag of older ones. The chocolate looked visibly aged, definitely not fresh, likely from the day before or even older.

It felt like they didn’t want to remove any from their display that early in the morning, which is not okay. It’s frustrating that this was done so openly and casually, like it was normal practice. That alone was enough to lose me as a customer.

To make it worse, the staff were unfriendly, the prices were shockingly high, and the refrigerator was so loud I could barely hear what anyone was saying. I even tipped them before realizing how the service would be.
