I am extremely allergic to gluten! Excited to find out that they offer gluten free pizza, my friend and I walked in to order 2 pizzas to go for lunch. I made sure we went during off-peak hours (around 3pm) so that they were not crowded. Izzy greeted us and I started off by confirming with him that they do offer gluten free pizzas. After he said yes, I asked him if they prevented from cross-contamination etc. He looked at me with a dumb stare and said something along the lines of, " Of course we do, all restaurants should." Relieved I placed my gluten-free pizza order and my friend ordered a regular pizza. I then watched as Izzy started with the regular pizza toppings and then moved over to my gluten free crust and started preparing it without changing gloves. I nicely said," My allergy is very severe, do you mind changing gloves?" Annoyed, he took off his gloves and slammed them down into the trash can. I further asked if he would be using a separate pizza cutter at the end. Again very annoyed, he said that he would get a fresh one for me. Then I watched him put the gluten free pizza directly (no pan) into the oven on top of all the flour in there. That was when I asked him if that was my pizza in there and that there wouldn't be a devoted pan, to which he replied, "no separate pan." I told him I wouldn't be able to eat that pizza. He went straight to the cash register and said I can refund you. I said, "ok thank you." and he only refunded the gluten free pizza and so my friend and I ended up not eating together. I don't expect everyone to accommodate to my allergy, but if a restaurant says they can do something, people like me need to trust it. Otherwise, don't say you have gluten free pizza and prevent from cross...
Read moreI found this place when returning Amazon items to the UPS store. Finally tried it today. Just gonna hit bullet points, because the never ending search for a GOOD pizza in Houston has not ended here, IMO.
Ordering online is not a great experience. I feel the website could be SO MUCH better than it is. Delivery vis DoorDash (or any other third party service) is BS and I am over it. DD does NOT CARE how your food arrives, or if it arrives at all. And I am tired of going to great lengths to try and read the mind of a complete stranger to try and ensure my food actually arrives TO ME.
The crust seems over proofed. It’s like eating pizza on matzah, and it almost has zero flavor. The sauce is nice and tangy, and the only positive. It’s very oily, most likely due to cheap mozz as their choice to use. The “artisan” shape is cute, but not necessary. And it arrived somewhat cold and in bad shape (see photo). I never asked for the sauce, so it being sloshed onto the pizza in transit was not pleasant to see when opening the box.
Long story short- never eating from here again. Will stick to the mom & pop place I have been using til now that actually employs a driver and they actually take pride...
Read moreSo much to say, firstly I want to preface this by saying that the customer service was amazing. I was helped out by Erik working the front he gave me some good recommendations and explained everything throughly. Here’s why this is a one star, while the toppings on my pizza tasted great the sauce was kinda watery, the cheese was almost tasteless and even though I saw them put in a new bag of cheese it felt rubbery. The thing that made this pizza maybe one of the worst I’ve ever eaten was the dough. It tasted off I saw them pull it out of the fridge and it looked fresh from what I could see, however it did not taste fresh there was an after taste that made the crust unbearable. The quality of said dough certainly wasn't up to par for the price point, this is my third time ordering from Zalat, I’ve ordered in other locations and the crust issue was always a big miss for me. I truly wanted to give it a final try before I gave up on it all together unfortunately the crust was enough to deter me from ordering again...
