My partner and I came here because the wait at nearby Vitales was too long.
Atmosphere is trying to be a trendy sports bar, but mostly comes off as rigid and cheap (only hard seats with a lot of high tops, and very bright lighting mixed with cheap beer signs). Beer was good and frosted mugs were also good, and they carried a decent selection, although most of their better selection was in cans as opposed to on tap. Our waitress was attentive and our service was good. We each ordered a small pizza and their cheesy crack breadsticks. The breadsticks were pretty good and worth ordering. My partner had the Supreme special which looked good and he enjoyed but said was run of the mill. I ordered a basic hand tossed pepperoni and was pretty disappointed. Initially I thought they had accidentally given me thin crust as it was extremely thin, but after looking at my partner's pizza also, I think that's just how it was supposed to be. Additionally there were approximately 2-3 small pepperoni per slice of pizza I had; I thought maybe there were some under the cheese, but there was not. it looked like the pizza served in elementary school lunches, and basically tasted as such as well. Considering that was basically all that was supposed to go on it, it felt like I had paid for a more expensive pizza but was given a cheese.
All said, pizza was not great. Service and beer were good but atmosphere left something to be desired. The place was packed when we left so it's possible we were just not the intended audience of this place. I...
Read moreThe food here was really good! However, the service was pretty terrible. We came here for a dinner with our whole family, 8 in total. We ask for a table of 8, and the hostess asks if we’d be okay if we got two tables close to each other, not together. We say no and so she sighs and rolls her eyes as if we asked the world of her. She looks to the only waiter they seem to have that day and asks if they can put tables together, almost as if she was hoping he’d say that was against some kind of rule and so she didn’t have to do anything. Eventually they work together to put two tables together, which was pretty easy seeing as everything was on wheels. Not sure what was her deal…
Anyway, we order and get our food. The waiter is pretty nice, but he’s completely swamped. This was a Saturday night, the place was filling up fast and he was alone. Because of this, he wasn’t able to come around to our table except during the beginning and to get the bull, and so we couldn’t ask him for one last thing we wanted. (I don’t blame him personally, he was wonderful, but there should be more than one waiter/waitress working on a Saturday night when...
Read moreI feel like I live in bizarro world sometimes because I think this is the best pizza in West Michigan, and yet hardly anyone I know ever eats here let alone gets excited about it. It's not even the most expensive pizza in town anymore since Vitale's barged in.
I'm not really a bar guy so I can't speak to that end of the restaurant but as far as pizza goes, every part is superior to what you get anywhere else. The highlight is the soft pillowy dough, which is even better on its own as butter-drenched breadsticks. I've made pizza crust and have no idea what kind of dark magic they are using here. The sauce is perfect. The cheese and pepperoni are perfect. I don't care for the deep dish myself but it is there if for some reason you get bored with perfect hand tossed pizza.
I'm writing this review because I had similar pizza from downtown GR and I'm irritated that it's not DJ's. DJ's Pizza Pub, I know you will read this review; please know that I love you, my family loves you, and you are a shining light in the city of...
