After a long day of work I rushed to Hartz to purchase dinner for my family. I arrived in the drive through at 9:20pm. I was greeted with a “we’re closed” at the speaker. I pulled up to the drive through window and blew my horn to get the employees attention who was standing at the window. He then used a key to open the window to speak with me. I asked him why were they closed when their business hours clearly state that they close at 9:30pm? He then said “We sold out of everything” I asked him about the chicken that I could see displayed on the shelves as I pulled in. I was then told “mam we have no chicken” After feeling insulted by the manager refusal to service my children and I, I said ok and drove away from the window. I then pull up to the entrance to take pictures of the displayed chicken. The employees laughed and tounted me as I took pictures. This type of customer service should be prohibited. Any customer arriving before closing time should be allowed service. I gave them no reason to refuse my service, but because they didn’t want to they just didn’t. The manager Making false claims of “being sold out” validates my statement. This is a prime example of how businesses have failed to educate their employees about the value of customers and the how to provide basic service. If you have received this type of poor customer service at Hartz please contact cooperate. Until my matter is addressed properly I will not be patronizing this...
Read moreThis is a hidden gem. I eat here a lot.
Unexpectedly, not just a fried-chicken place. They have a surprising all-you-can-eat buffet that is really tasty and not expensive. It's the typical, down-home Texas lunch I grew up on, and there's something for everyone. To name a few, there's grilled chicken, fried chicken, fried catfish, meatballs, fried gizzards, potato salad, beans, collard greens, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, okra, fruit, and outstanding fresh-baked homemade dinner rolls. They have fresh-cooked banana pudding and other dessert specialties on the menu, too.
My favorites always include the grilled chicken, and they have fried gizzards (no, they're not oysters), too; I love the collard greens with Louisiana hot sauce; the kidney beans; the mustardy potato salad with jalapenos; and some of their delicious fresh-baked dinner rolls, almost as good as my sister's. I usually have some home-made banana pudding for dessert.
True, the building is old, and it doesn't look like much from the outside (they're busy fixing it up), but it's clean and well-kept. The bathrooms sparkle. The staff are friendly and bilingual, and they are prompt and courteous. There is a drive-through, too, if you're in a hurry.
This is nothing but good ol' Southern home-style cooking, and if you're looking to fill up on some down-to-earth, plain but delicious food for very little money, this...
Read moreMy family and I recently stumbled upon this hidden gem while traveling to the Houston area. Being from the DFW area we have plenty of fried chicken options. We wanted a place sit down and have some fried chicken for dinner but something quick and fast with lots of options. What better way to satisfy our appetite with a fried chicken buffet. After reading some of the past reviews, I was hesitant but learned that it was under new management. Photos are everything to me . So looking at before and after pictures, I could tell that this new owner gave this place a new vibe and a much needed face lift. Let me tell you this place did not disappoint. Dara, the new owner brought us fresh rolls right out the oven and chicken right out the fryer. YUMMY!! Unlike other fast food buffet places, Dara is definitely striving for freshness and quality in his food. The dinner rolls I learned are made in house and then right into the oven. It tasted semi-sweet, buttery and all so fluffy. Never frozen and rebaked. The fried chicken was crispy and juicey. I could tell that Dara is very personable and passionate in trying to rebuild this business that was established in 1972. So if you live in the North Houston/Humble area or just passing through , please check Hartz Chicken on 210 First st it’s not like...
