We've been going here for many years and have loved it. Today we were asked if we wanted cornbread. It is complimentary with a little portion of butter and cinnamon butter. It's always delicious. This is usually brought to the table without fail or any question. As I ordered, I pointed to the item on the menu. The waitress told me it was a one-meat item. Since this was what I had wanted in the first place, I told her yes that was fine. When we get our orders, she informs me that she put my order in wrong and it was a two-meat dish. She did apologize. I didn't order that, but told her if it was going to be the same price then that was okay (I could always take it home, right?). She said no, I would have to pay more. Basically paying $7 more for her mistake. I told her no. I would just take what I ordered. So she leaves with my food and goes to the front entrance area of the restaurant instead of the kitchen. After a while, she comes back from the front to my table and takes my little plate that I was using for my cornbread. She motions for me to slide one portion of the meat entree to it. Huh? I was dumbfounded. I had to get my utensils and comply. She then left with my little plate containing the second portion of meat on it and went to the kitchen. Umm, why didn't she just go to the kitchen in the first place to adjust instead of parading my food in and out of the dining area? At this point I just wanted to hurry up and get this ordeal over with so we could leave. I lost my appetite but ate since we hadn't yet eaten because we were waiting to enjoy Humble City Cafe. At least my husband's order was fine without any issues. Fast forward to me still eating and my husband just about finished. He had the headstart you see. She starts clearing the table. I'm still trying to enjoy my meal and almost had to lose my cornbread skillet. I wasn't finished but she already reaching for it before I could finish swallowing my food to stop her. Why couldn't she wait? Previous to this she left the check and told us we could pay her or pay at the front. We were both still eating at that point. Shortly after that is when she began asking if she could take plates, clear things off the table or take care of the check. I also noticed the person that cleans tables nearby. Why didn't our waitress just let us eat in peace? This meal was not enjoyable. It was such a shame it left me shaking my head. Also, right now there is a temporary 50 center fee due to the egg price increases. They have it posted inside and outside but...
Read moreThe food, atmosphere, and service at the Humble City Cafe are reminiscent of yesteryear. This quaint and comfortable Cafe has lots of seating and no matter how how busy they are, there's very little waiting. The servers are fast and attentive, and the food is always hot and tasty. I usually get the same EXACT thing at any given restaurant, but the Humble City Cafe blackboard near the front entrance always has yummy stuff listed. It practically BEGS you to try something different every time you visit. Today, I tried their chicken fried chicken, two eggs, pancakes and grits...and toast. Eggs were perfect, the chicken fried chicken was moist inside and crispy on the outside, and the gravy was spectacular! The coffee was a mild roast that doesn't give my stomach issues afterwards. All this was less than $10! I was stuffed, but I'll be back!!! They're open for dinner, too... Five nights a week, with a different menu than breakfast or lunch, but still so tasty... The parking is ample, too. Even at their busiest times, there always plenty of free parking in their lot and on the street. Plus, their giftshop has some fun things to but that I've never seen anywhere else. Today, I got a purse for a certain toddler I love...I've NEVER been disappointed at this place! You'll love it, too. Don't forget to visit the local shops around the...
Read moreWe've gone twice for breakfast, and both times we were disappointed. Once on the weekend and one more time recently during a weekday. The restaurant itself is very charming and full of cute and fun vintage decorations things to look at while you're waiting - and trust me you will wait.
The first time on the weekend, it was very busy, so we thought the slow, inattentive service was due to of the volume of people. The food was forgettable. It's standard breakfast fare, nothing terrible or outstanding, just basic beige food. The coffee was decent but we couldn't get a refill.
The second time, most recently, we went and it was much quieter. We thought we would get better service, but our waitress pretty much forgot about us and went on break without checking to see if we were ready to pay or needed anything else. Again, basic beige food. I ordered the vegetable omelette, but it had so few veggies it may as well have been just eggs. Again, couldn't get a coffee refill - there was another server giving refills but she skipped our table.
We won't be back, I don't think this place it worth making a special trip, but if you're in the area and don't mind service being slow or inattentive, it's an ok place to get bland food and one...
