This place is just ok. First time we came it was an ok experience. Pricey as far as Vietnamese comfort food goes. But this second time was a disappointment.
Wife ordered a large rare steak n brisket pho. Overall food portions are getting smaller and the meat servings in their soups was lacking. Broth was ok. This is the first time I’ve ordered Vietnamese iced coffee and didn’t like it. It was brought out premade and mixed in a plastic cup. Part of ordering it at the table is watching the brew drip process happen and then mixing the milk n coffee together yourself. Didn’t happen here. And it was very bitter and foul tasting. Their ratio of coffee to condensed milk was way off. I asked the server for a little extra condensed milk and she comes back with coffee mate hazelnut flavored creamer?! Seriously?Gross! NOTE: When I went up to pay, I noticed the lady making the iced coffees was literally brewing the hot pour-over coffee directly into plastic cups and then mixing in the condensed milk! You never pour piping hot coffee into a plastic container because it severely alters the taste! Glass or ceramic cup is the standard. Now I know why the coffee tasted so bad. Ordered my 3 yr old kid a small bowl of broth and noodles like we always do and this time they brought out a tiny cup bowl filled with noodles and very little broth. Last time we came they gave us an actual kid sized bowl. I ordered their beef vermicelli bowl, hardly any beef and the dish wasn’t even hot. It was barely warm.
For the price, I’d expect more. And if a customer told me something was off with the flavor of a beverage or menu item I’d replace it immediately with one that tastes right, no questions asked.
It’s just a letdown since there aren’t many good quality pho restaurants in Humble. Too bad because this place could be great with...
Read moreGood food, great service. Phở An is clearly my favorite Vietnamese restaurant in the Houston area (and for 200 miles in any direction). Worth driving up from Houston to eat there.
Let me confess, I am a Vietnamese food addict, have been for years. There's no better place to assuage my addiction than Phở An. The soup stock for the phở is the best I have had anywhere in the US...and I've slurped phở from one coast to the other. They give generous portions, too, not scrimping, even on the plate of bean sprouts and herbs (as lesser VN restaurants do).
The service has always been great, and I eat there a lot. They keep my water glass filled to the brim, and are always kind to me. The food comes INSTANTLY except during rush hour, when you may have to wait a couple of minutes. If you visit during peak hours, the staff don't have time to stop and chat, but if you visit during the off-peak hours, you may inevitably strike up a conversation with one of the managers or servers, and you may find that you have made a new friend.
I have been getting the phở đặc biệt lately (Special Soup), and needless to say, everything I have eaten at Phở An has been excellent. I love the Cơm (Rice) dishes and the Bún (noodle) dishes, too, especially Bún thịt nướng (noodles with grilled pork). The Spring Rolls are exceptional, as is their peanut sauce.
I highly recommend this restaurant to veteran phở addicts as well as people who have been wondering if they should try...
Read moreMy team and I (4 total) went out to eat at this place today. 2 of us ordered a pho bowl ($13.75 each as shown on the menu). The other two colleagues ordered the Rice bowl with pork/shrimp ($13.00 each). We got 2 sodas ($3)/2 water and a side order of spring rolls ($5.00). When we went to check out the total was $88.00. We didnt even realized we got overcharged until we were driving back to our job. We called the management and they told us "oh yeah the prices have increased" each plate we got was actually $16 bucks each and the spring rolls we got were actually $5 per spring roll (ARE YOU JOKING!?). These prices were not listed on the menu, in what pho establishment do you see where they charge $5 per spring roll. They realize they overcharged us and made up new prices on the spot when they called us back. I have filed a complaint...
