My parents and I used to come to this restaurant for many years with no problems whatsoever.
One day after phoning in a to-go order for my parents, we went to pick up the order, and my wife went in alone. She came back in tears. She stated the woman inside yelled at her and treated her very bad when she addressed an error in the order. My wife tried to move past it to just get the right order and even pay for the wrong one, but the woman behind the counter/bar was already nasty. The woman claimed to either be the owner or sister of the owner.
Everyone who knows my wife knows she is a lamb of a person. She is very docile and never raises her voice and doesn't curse. None of our family does. Not even to me in the 10 years of our marriage has my wife yelled or cursed at me.
When I went inside the restaurant to resolve the matter peacefully, which I thought would happen, I was met with great belligerence by the same irascible woman who had other big men seated around the bar threaten me to leave the restaurant. I was only there to get either our correct food order or a refund. Nothing more.
Since my wife and I did not do anything to provoke this, I can only assume this was racially motivated or some other form of prejudice. I do look young for my age, and I have the build of a slim Asian man, so often people assume I couldn't possibly make money. Thus, I am usually treated like garbage by prejudiced people.
As a software engineer, I tend to think problems through and not react. All we wanted was the food that we were picking up for my parents. Due to this behavior, my parents and many of my family and friends stopped going to Italiano's. It's sad because we had many dinners there. My parents have since passed on, and my wife and I have not visited this restaurant in 10 years now.
What we'd like to know is whether or not the same ghastly people still run this restaurant or not? I have lots of family and friends I want to take to eat Italian close to my house, and I certainly do not want anyone in my party treated maliciously. Irascible people have no business dealing with the public, especially in a customer service oriented business.
Great Italian restaurants that have always treated me, my wife, and my family and friends super are: The Grotto, Collina's, La Griglia, Birraporreti's, Sorrento, Bocca, Potente, Maggiano's, Tony's, Paulie's, Damian's, Mia Bella, Nundini, Carrabba's, Grimaldi's, and Fratelli's. Not sure what the problem is with the owners/management...
Read moreI typically do not write reviews but I just had to for our first Italiano's experience. We went in during the dinner rush to break fast and were told there was a 20min wait, which we did not mind as we had brought something has backup to break fast in the meantime.
As we were waiting a waitress or manager or maybe even one of the owners saw us waiting and called over other workers to get us sat while saying "i think they need to eat". I assume she said this because she saw my headscarf and us eating our dates. Overhearing their conversation, it seemed even though we were next in line they did not have a table of 4 ready, but because of her empathy, she got her workers to fix us a table with two tables of two, despite the absolute chaos of dinner time. They even offered us water in the meantime.
When we were sat down, a man who I am guessing was the owner based on his more casual wear, brought us dates!! We were so stunned and our heart was so warm at the gesture, as this had never happened to us at a non-halal restaurant.
Our waitress Jasmin was also very very kind, patient and super attentive :)
Now the food: we're from NJ so we are used to phenomenal Italian food given the Italian population in Jersey. Outside of NJ we have found it difficult to find such an experience again and THIS was definitely one of them. We all got chicken parms because they're our favorite and the sauce was so tomatoey and tasted fresh. The chicken was seasoned well. But the GARLIC KNOTS?? Absolutely fantastic. So buttery, so fresh and they bring them out to you as much as you ask for them, free with your meal!! For the prices, the amount of food you receive is great and unheard of nowadays. Good cheesecake is also quite the find for us and we were so pleasantly surprised by how creamy and well made the cheesecake was.
We are so excited to...
Read moreI've tried several dishes here the chicken Marsala made me want to lick the plate the sauce was so amazing... I'd bathe in it.... the Florentine sauce is so rich and decadent I want to do the same. The raviolis were perfectly cooked! The stuffed mushrooms were also a well balanced sauce and huge appetizer. They weren't over cooked at all... the chefs here have it down to an art! I've never found anything like their buttery garlic knots anywhere I could eat them all day. They staff are kind and patient even when they are always busy making other hungry people happy! They have an amazing meat stuffed cannoli pasta on their luncheon menu that I would give a finger for to have as my last dish on earth... I haven't got to try the pizzas but I have seen them and salivated, as well as the calzones... The house tomato vinaigrette is flavor town bursting and cuts through this creamy Florentine sauce - the garden salad ingredients are always fresh cut top notch veggies clean and crisp! The garlic knots come with every meal and the salad comes with every entre! I am dying to try some meatballs... The quality of ingredients is held to a high standard and the pricing is a great deal for the quality! They have grilled or blackened chicken option - I tried the blackened chicken and they still managed to keep it moist! yum - so much flavor - nothing to snore at here... with fun Italian music playing and a good wine and beer menu. They have an extensive classic Italian menu and I want to try everything on it. I've never been disappointed here - you cannot go wrong with Italiano's - just try to save room for a dessert! The cannoli...
