The building is somewhat unassuming, but the pizza was impressively good. I got a pepperoni pizza on a Friday night. A well mannered young woman took my order. The pizza was ready faster than I could make a run across the road to ABC liquor and back. I got a pleasant surprise with a free cannoli! Walking out the door I could smell the delicous spice of the pepperoni even with the pizza still in the box! The first slice pulled away with easy a foot long trail of mozzarella that GENEROUSLY topped the pizza. If you like cheese, you'd probably be a fan of Rocky's. Eating this pizza is a unique experience as the first few bites are like eating mouthfuls of cheese. I appreciate that they didn't use Too many pepperonis, each one was like an explosion of spicy meatiness. As you eat your way through the slice you're introduced to a subtle sweet sauce that seems to increase in quantity as you make your way to the crust. The crust, unassuming at first and relatively thin, but as you make your way back you get more of an introduction to a very classic pizza dough taste. Then some of the spice in the sauce starts to kick in just before eating the final bites of crust at the end. I appreciate that the crust had minimal burning so that you're not left with that burnt carbon taste at the end as I was also happy to see the toppings most of the way to the edge. I don't think anyone wants to order a 12" pizza, but only get 10" of toppings.
I'll definitely have this pizza again the next time I'm in town. The kind staff and free cannoli touch were icing on the cake for a good pizza that I'd rate 4/5.
Areas for improvement - I like my pepperoni just a little brunt around the edges. This pepperoni was very good, but it would have been amazing if it had that slight crispy burn to it. Some of the crust edges were a little too thin and hardened to the point that the crust starts to cut into the roof of your mouth. It wasn't every slice, just a few, but I like having...
Read moreAwful Service Clueless Millennials that don't give a damn about customer service. When I walked up to the counter, I saw a chalkboard menu that had "Thick Pizza" highlighted. I asked if they had thin pizza, and the skeleton looking, tattooed chick mumbled, yes, they had thin pizza. I asked where the thin pizza menu was at, and she flipped a paper menu at me. Literally, flipped it at me. I was well within arms reach, maybe eighteen inches away, but she couldn't be bothered enough to put it my hand.
I made my selection, a small pie, as they have no slices after 5pm, and sat down and waited. After 15 minutes, I was greeted with a thick crust pizza. I told the skeleton that I had asked for thin crust, when I was advised that small pizza only comes in thick. I would have to order a medium or large if I wanted thin crust. So, I ended up with a thick pizza, after requesting thin, and got a bad attitude as a topping. I asked for paper plates, and she left on what appeared to be an expedition. She wandered around until another employee finally pointed then out to her, right there in front of her. But...before she could hand me the plates, she stopped to take a phone order. She read thru the menu, took the delivery address, phone, and credit card numbers, before hanging up, and finally handing the plates to me. I wished she would have flipped me the plates, instead of the menu. Clueless!
Oh, and by the way, they only have light beer. Why would they carry Budweiser, the most popular beer, not only the United States, but the world?
Rocky's is a perfect name for this place, as in the customer service is Rocky, the menu is Rocky, and the beer selection is Rocky. The only thing set in stone is that I won't be back. I give them a year to eighteen months to go out of...
Read moreEven though we do enjoy the food, it has now become impossible to judge when you will get your food. We have tried delivery and picking up. We have been quoted 30-45 minutes for delivery 3 times and every-time has been an hour and a half. I dont think it would have ever showed up if we didnt call about 3 times. This last time we decided to not chance it and pickup ourselves. Was quoted 20 minutes. Gave it 40 minutes before arrival when I got there out of 2 sandwiches and a large pepperoni the 2 sandwiches were not done and was told it would be 10 more minutes because they were busy. Meanwhile there were two tables with a total of 8 people in the restaurant and not a single other takeout order came while I waited 10 minutes for sandwiches. The first lady I asked how this could be possible just didnt say anything. She really didnt care. I asked if the owner was there who is who came last time to the house to deliver and was very apologetic asking for another chance and that he would talk to them. She just said no hes not working today. I asked if someone else was there that I could raise concern too, she pointed at some other lady there and then the lady came up. I explained the whole thing again and asked if this is the new norm and what is going on. She said “sorry, the chef is in a mood tonight” At this point nothing was said or done to even try to make the situation better. Im done with this place, love my philly I get from there, feel the pizza is decent, but cant work with not knowing when food...
