Jewel City Seafood Restaurant & Market — Restaurant in Huntington

We have enjoyed this place since I moved here in 2011. It is the closest fresh seafood in our area. It’s also locally owned which is a plus. Tonight though I’m not sure what happened but my mom’s food was wrong. I ordered a pound of blackened large shrimp with a little Old bay seasoning cooked in it. We received it on the side. My mom did enjoy her 2 sides of greens. I ordered with the host because I was on the phone trying to deal with something else. Which usually I won’t do because it’s rude. They are always nice and very attentive. I told our waiter she said it wasn’t available like that. Which we knew because of the host. My mom still wanted it so we ordered it. He asked what size shrimp i told him the same as the special which is large.

When it came out my said it was good but why wasn’t it the pound we ordered. Again it was a special a available on Wednesday. So when I ordered with the host he said ok but the special price is was not available I said ok he showed me on the menu the price which was ok it was supposed to be 18 something with 2 sides.

The manager I believe named Melissa came out and listened to me. She then told me we had to pay for it. I agree but it wasn’t about the paying it was about them understanding my mom did not get what I ordered for her per her request. I did ask for a discount but she said no since we ordered and she ate half of it she still had to charge. Then she said she could offer me a small discount but again it wasn’t about the payment it was truly about the experience my mom and I were trying to have a beautiful dinner. It was about the principal of the Situation! Nothing more nothing less.

It breaks my heart because it’s the only place we like to eat because it closest thing to fresh seafood in our area.

I pray it was just a bad night for them. We all make mistakes. We paid , tipped and left with kind words to hopefully spread JOY!

Save your money spent $120 for 4 people catfish was undercooked slimey and tasted aweful red beans and rice was a disgrace and flavorless the only thing that was actually good was 3 pieces of fish from one meal the fried zucchini okra fries and the pull n peel shrimp was good just a bit over cooked I have eaten alot of different fish from restaurants and caught n prepared myself and this was probably the most expensive/nastiest food I've had and it's sad because this place was recommended by a coworker and we was excited to try it may be a one time bad experience but hopefully if we try it again it's alot better because I don't mind paying for good food but this was not it..i posted this Monday night on their fb page and it was removed and i was blocked by Tuesday morning so i will not be back and from a server stand point if you care enough about your job you should notice that a table of people who specifically asked if the red beans and rice was good didnt eat them at all and the fish was broken in peices but not eaten....she didnt even care enough to remember i ordered sweet tea so she brought me unsweet on my second glass and they had 2 other tables besides me i still tipped her but i have eaten better at captain ds and we ended up leaving and getting good food after we left this sad excuse for a sesfood resturant and at this point i wouldnt go back if they begged me which by the looks of the customers the only reason they stay in business is because the seniors that eat there dont care to eat bland tasteless food (i hope they put a DG...

My wife & i was traveling thru this area and decided to stop here for lunch on our travel north. If no parking is available out front, you can go thru back alley area into there gravel parking lot which is abt 2bldg’s down from the restaurant, be careful driving into the gravel lot there is some depressions in the lot area. Once entered into restaurant it was a clean, nice setup with seafood decor, we was taken to our table within a minute, Benches with Tables are setting up Middle with a wall divider between customers with Tables & Chairs setting around outside walls, our waiter was a great guy he was continuously taking care customers and doing great job at that. I ordered the Wednesday Special which was pound of Fried Shrimp with Cocktail Sauce and 2sides which was OnionRings and Fried Green Tomatoes. Waiter brought some delicious Hushpuppies while we waited on our order, which did not take long at all for our order to come to our table. My order was prepared and cooked correctly, the entire order was straight out “dang gone” delicious. Do not pass this Seafood Establishment up if in this area!! Pricing i will give it $$ and that includes a good...
