Do NOT plan your events here!!!! The only reason it got 2 stars was because some of the staff was very good at fixing issues that never should have been issues. I stayed here as part of a wedding group and wow, so disappointed. The coordinator Ceara never blocked additional rooms as she stated she would, so a portion of the group was not included in the wedding block pricing and included breakfast. Ceara stated that the wedding group would be assigned to a floor so that we could all be together, but again that was never taken care of because the front desk staff did not know anything about it. Fortunately one member of the front desk staff was able to correct these issues but be careful..the other lady working told us that they didn't have enough rooms on one floor to accommodate our group. We had maybe 20 rooms all together and each floor has about 30 rooms. This same (older) lady stated that she has lived in Huntington for her whole life and would not ever park in the parking garage that the valet uses because it is old. She made it sound unsafe. She suggested that we park on the street, but get up and move our vehicle before 8am (when the meters start) and "try" to find a space in the front of the hotel (there are like 10 available). I was here for a wedding that I was participating in, I did not have time to move my vehicle 2 times a day and "hope" there would be a free parking space. Again, thank goodness for the other lady working, she was very reassuring about the parking garage. It turns out, it is only for staff and the valet so no one else is in there.
Next are the issues with our room. The inside of the windows were disgusting and appeared to not have been cleaned in weeks. Water pressure-poor. The shower head was not properly tightened so there was water spraying out where the head connects to the pipe. We asked for maintenance to come fix it three times but no luck. It was still the same way after our five night stay. The Wifi: Yes there is free Wifi but my wife had to figure out (on her own) how to connect because there were no directions in the room...none. Now another guest had a piece of paper taped to the folder with the keys, explaining how to use the Wifi but really is this the way Hilton wants to be? A piece of paper hand cut and taped to each key folder to explain things? Come on. Oh and don't trust the card on the phone!!! It says to dial 10 for the front desk, Nope you have to dial 0. The entire staff knows it and despite us bringing it to their attention, there was no fix. I checked multiple other rooms and yeah, they all say the same thing. It's like they don't really want you to call them. They said they would send maintenance to come fix it but again they never did. Now for the wedding arrangement portion. The rehearsal dinner was held in the breakfast room. The food was good, the venue was nice and the staff, when properly informed, was very nice and accommodating. But DON'T TRUST Ceara!!! She said she was going to send quotes but didn't. She stated she was going to be present before the event started but never showed or called. As a matter of fact, she never answered a phone call the first time. You couldn't even leave her a message because her voicemail box was full!! Can you imagine having a person coordinate a portion of your most special day that you can't reach or even leave a message for!!!?? And here is the most horrible part, Ceara was supposed to coordinate a shuttle service from the hotel to the reception site and back. She called the bride two hours before the wedding because the guests were asking about the shuttle and the staff was telling people there wasn't a shuttle arranged!! Fortunately, Brandon, the hotel's valet supervisor, was able to make a shuttle happen. I have no idea how Ceara keeps her job but AVOID her coordinating your event...

I came to Huntington to see my girl friend that I hadn’t seen in a year for Memorial Day weekend. I was super excited for this hotel as the photos and reviews were nice. I was most excited about its location and pool, which were the two determining factors for me choosing this property over others. I wanted to be downtown and I really wanted to swim, because again it was Memorial Day weekend and 80+ degrees and beautiful weather. I got there and asked about the pool and they told me it was closed. No explanation nor heads up considering their main photos online are of their pool. I’ve never heard of a pool being closed for Memorial Day weekend? Had I known, I would’ve stayed elsewhere for cheaper because it was the main reason I felt the price was justified. Already bummed about this, I also was blindsided about the parking. I was not warned ahead that there was no onsite parking for this hotel, which I’ve never experienced before. For an extra charge of course, you can do valet. I did since I was unfamiliar with the area and it didn’t feel safe. Just another expense I wasn’t planning on and I’d have to wait long periods of time for them to get my car because the valet people were never there when I needed them. I was always told it “would be awhile”.
Okay now the main reason I’m leaving this review. I paid for this hotel ahead of time on Expedia. They still had me put my card in upon arrival which I thought was weird and the charge was for the full amount. I checked my bank account after I got into my room and they had charged me $150 for incidentals AND for my entire stay again, so roughly $600. It was all the money had brought with me for the weekend to see my friend. When I went down to the desk for help, 2 staff members were unable to explain any of it to me or help me. I was told to come back for the night manager, which I did. He was an hour late, mind you this was like 11:00pm so I was not about to come back for a third time to meet with someone about this at midnight. So I returned my last day of my stay for further assistance (thank god my boyfriend was able to spot me some money to EAT all weekend) . A new lady was there and she also could not explain anything to me, but assured me she would have it taken care of. I get home on Memorial Day with the charges still pending. I try and be understanding since it’s a holiday weekend, but go to check my account again to see TWO more charges equaling around another $600. This is still on top of the other money that I’m missing from them that is still pending. I call and ask for an explanation. The person helping me didn’t seem to know what happened either, but eventually told me someone had charged my card in correctly at check in. I got told everything would drop off depending on my bank, could be 5-7 business days. So here I am a week later without any money. I just can’t believe something like this is legal. At first they didn’t offer anything but apologies. Then they offered a one night’s stay at any doubletree until I asked to speak with a manager. The manager finally agreed to a one night’s stay refund but I just don’t feel it in any way makes up for my horrible stay. I couldn’t do ANYTHING I had planned. I couldn’t eat out with my friends and enjoy my vacation because all my money was tied up into this hotel. My whole trip was ruined. I will...
Read moreWe were very pleased with our stay at the Hilton Double Tree. Everyone from the front desk, valet (though didn't use, he helped us when the front desk was busy with someone else) to the cleaning staff were very attentive, polite and payed attention to every detail. Even though this was our first time at this property, they treated us as though we were frequent visitors. The cookie and water was a very nice and appreciated touch.
I usually book through Priceline, Travelocity or one of the other travel aggregators to get the best price, but this time I booked directly with Hilton and I'm glad I did! They will match any price you see online and offer an additional 25% off if it's not on their app.... I signed up for Hilton Honors and immediately began using their app. I was able to check in, choose our room on whatever floor we wanted and check out. The app is also your room key, which is VERY nice. The only issue is it only works on one phone at a time. That is supposed to change at some point in the future. They still give you a room key though, so no worries. If you are traveling with someone, one of you will need your own key card, at least as I write this today.
We opted out of valet parking, but it's super reasonable at $8 a day not including tip. As you probably know, in bigger cities it can be $50+ dollars a day just to park your car. Be sure to tip, these guys are super polite and attentive, even if you aren't using the valet service... We would have, but weren't planning on moving the car during our stay. Everywhere we needed to go this time was within walking distance. They have quite a few free parking spots in the parking lot next to Red Lobster for hotel guests only.
The entire hotel, including our room, was sparkling clean. You could tell they pay attention to details.
We had a room with a city view on the 9th floor. They had several available rooms on either side of the building, if you wanted a river view instead. You get a map of the building on the Hilton Honors app, similar to what you find when booking a flight. This option only appears after you book your room and it's check in time (after 3pm) They give options in 30 min increments as to when they can expect you. We arrived 30 minutes earlier than what we thought we would. It was not a problem. You have to visit the front desk first before your digital key is activated. I'm not sure if this is just a requirement the first visit or if it's required for each future visit as well.
I have no complaints other than I could not get the ethernet connection to work. I need a wired connection for work... But it could have very well been a problem on my end. I didn't pursue looking into it. But they do have an ethernet (wired) connection available. The wifi had a steady speed of approx 10 mpbs our entire stay. You can pay an extra $4.99 a day for premium internet access. We didn't try it, since we weren't in the room much, but plan on testing it out next time.
We've been searching the Hilton Honors app for some places we frequent.... all I can say is we are really liking the Hilton brand. We've stayed in Hilton's before.... but this was the first time using their app and the first time at this particular property.
Overall, very pleased and plan on returning when visiting my...
