Pretty good new chain coffee spot in the Cove!
I feel like Dutch Bros are opening up all over the place -- it's a little overwhelming. Lots of construction delays for the 3-4 in the Huntsville area but this one finally opened a few weeks ago.
This chain is very beverage focused: coffee, flavored teas, lemonades, shakes, energy drinks, sparkling sodas, smoothies, cocoas...if it's a non-alcoholic drink, you can probably find it here, lol. Food options are VERY limited, just mass produced muffin tops as far as I can tell.
I've been a couple times now to get a feel for the place and have been mostly pleased. It's nice that they're open pretty late every day and also that there's a drive-through or walk-up option. Drive through orders are generally taken by employees who come up to your car with a tablet. This definitely seems to hasten the process rather than just ordering at the window. Honestly, the place reminds me quite a bit of 7 Brew, another drive through chain that arrived in our area first. Dutch Bros does have more diverse drinks, but so far I've liked the flavor of 7 Brews specialty drinks more. The flavor profiles here can get a little muddy (e.g. mostly a chocolatey flavor for the Caramelizer, etc).
That being said, I've been fairly pleased with the flavor and especially the size of Dutch Bros' drinks. I get medium iced coffees almost everywhere I go and here a small is enough for me; their medium is on the pretty large side. My favorite speciality drink so far is probably the "Caramelizer" (caramel mocha), but I do like my coffee on the super sweet side. ;)
I've also tried their peach tea and it was tasty as well.
Service is insanely pleasant and friendly, almost overly so if you're not interested in getting chatty with the employees. I've enjoyed my conversations with them so far, but I can also definitely understand the desire to just exchange payment for beverage and go. I'm pretty sure the number of staff is a little inflated due to corporate folks coming in to train the local employees, so I'll be interested to see if the speed of service and bubbly personalities are kept up in the months to come.
Last note: there's a mobile app available through which you can earn rewards and such. Might be worth picking up if you see yourself coming with...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreĀ Ā Ā Read moreOur first time to try Dutch Bros and safe to say it wonāt be replacing our usual coffee place anytime soon. As others have mentioned, lots of sugar in drink, even when ordered 1/2 sweet. I did like the taste of the drink and there are a lot of options for flavors which is nice but they donāt seem to be focused on actual coffee/espresso. The drive through person taking orders was friendly but so slow and not going in any order⦠we downloaded the app and ordered there while we waited. Spoiler alert, it did not make the experience any faster. The one food item they have (I guess this should have been our clue) was handed to us pretty much frozen. I actually politely asked if it was supposed to be cold because we had no idea thatās now they would serve a muffin top. The icing on this 40 min Saturday afternoon (so definitely not peak time) coffee break was one of the rudest employees I have encountered. First she over zealously asked if I was āJoannaā (Iām notā¦my name is Kelli so I can see how she would confuse those) multiple times, made it clear she wasnāt listening or interested, and proceeded to passive aggressively berate me from the window as she made my drink. She continued as the other poor employee stood there stunned. āShy-rahā was how she pronounced her name and I literally drove away as she continued to loudly exclaim āmaāamā whilst trying to let me know her feelings about me (which I could not be less interested in). Itās a...
Great coffee, Great muffin tops, Not so honest employees (Not all of them) But definitely one of them. After paying with my card and hitting the button on the tablet, I opted out of the tip on my card because I always put cash in the box at the window. The button didn't respond when I presses it, so when she took the tablet back I asked her "Did it work when I hit the button" and she said yes it worked. But I had seen her hit something, I had a weird feeling about it. I get up to the window and get my item (A $3 muffin top. I leave $2 in the tip box and donate $1 towards the charity they were doing today (Valentine's Day)
Fast forward a couple hours and I am going through my notifications on my phone, I get alerts for usage on my card, and the $3 for that muffin top turned into $11 on my card. So she hit the highest tip button, and acted like it had already worked when I hit the no tip button, since I always tip cash. So $11 plus the $2 tip in cash, I paid $13 for a freaking muffin top.
Just beware, and make sure you hit the buttons and see it go through before they take it back. My intuition told me something was up, I felt it. And turns out my intuition was right.
I'm not mad, but I'm very disappointed. It's not about the money, it's the principal of the situation. Honesty seems to be less and less...
