Humphrey's — Restaurant in Huntsville

Humphrey's is one of the few late night options for college students. I've been coming here for about 3 years now, and it's only gone down hill. I'll start with the positives.

The new renovations are great! It somehow was able to nail the "dive bar" aesthetic without any of the dirt or grime. Still not 3-michelin-star pristine, nor am I asking it to be, but honestly one of the best atmospheres for a place nicknamed "Humps." Plus my old boss is on the wall. The burgers are a safe bet. The seasoning is great, their specialty burgers are great, the buns are good, and the fries are delightful! A manager or someone who looks like one, will usually coast by about two times a meal. Keeping a great eagle eye out. Great move.

That aside I've gone about 2 times in the past 2 months, and had come pretty often before, but the changes recently just aren't the best, and will be the reason I don't plan on coming back. The food has always been slightly bland, without having a bold take on anything. I've partook in about the whole menu, and can say it's just all like that, with the exceptions of the burgers. Especially with prices hikes from COVID, then due to recent affairs (as of writing there is the looming "recession talk"), no longer justifies the prices. $9 for their iconic red rocket??? Man. This with the lukewarm food, and what feels like the waitresses getting worked a little too hard.

TL;DR (Too long; didnt read.) 3 stars due to waitresses being stacked a little too hard, 10-15 minute waits on drinks/service. Food being okay, lukewarm, but fresh for sure. It's always a hit or miss.

Wishing that you all go back to your recent glory. No malice in this review, just hoping y'all can work...

Just as we did, you can see that most reviews about the food are 5 stars, and we concur! (Please read to the end) We had dinner here last night...I enjoyed the Rib Eye (mouth-watering!!)with a Greek salad (delicious creamy dressing). We chose the Buffalo sauce / chicken / cheese dip appetizer, (off-the-chain!) He had the wings and said they were terrific. I tried his steak fries, I had the mashed potatoes...very few places get these both right, but they were delicious and fresh!! I did not detect any frozen foods. Plenty of leftovers for lunch today!!!

I am compelled to post this review about our server, KENDALL. She truly deserves 5 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 's on her own. Humphrey's is a relaxed, bar atmosphere with great food, however, KENDALL transformed our dinner out into a fine dining experience!! Her warm, beautiful smile, her great attitude and fantastic serving skills, topped of with a desire to care properly for her guests, made us feel welcome and comfortable. We dine out often and were repeatedly impressed with her knowledge, professionalism and attentiveness. Kendall has the ideal personality to be a server but is a person you can see being successful in any arena. So if you truly enjoy GREAT FOOD & AWESOME SERVICE, EAT AT HUMPHREY'S AND ASK FOR KENDALL. I am certain the other server's are great, but, KENDALL truly has set the bar for stellar customer service!! Thank you, Kendall for making our dinner out a fun and memorable evening!! *When dining out, please keep in mind, a server's income is 99% from tips!! So if they are a great server, please take good care of them. It is a very demanding job, please tip according to the experience...

One of our favorite places in Huntsville. Unfortunately this visit almost pushed us to leave and never return. We arrived around lunch time with a party of four. We were as always instructed to sit wherever we please and chose to sit at one of the tables outside. It was surprisingly slow for lunch time with only two tables occupied outside. We were then completely ignored for 20 minutes before even getting menus. The two other tables arrived shortly after us and received their meals before we ever received menus. To make things worse, once we finally received SOME service (drink order taken), we ordered our favorite Humphrey's cocktails, a whiskey-Rita and a Mojito. I am convinced the neither had any alcohol in them. After receiving our cocktails and placing our lunch orders, we were promptly ignored for another 20 minutes. We have been coming here for over a decade and have never experienced this level of poor service and product. On the bright side, the food as always was delicious, but the lack of service was completely unacceptable. Especially on a slow day. Very disappointed and really hope this is a one time issue that gets resolved quickly so that we can return and enjoy...
