I have lived in Huntsville for a year, and The Revivalist has been one of my favorite restaurants to return to during that time. I booked a table for dinner to bring my family and my mom, who flew in for Mother's Day. I was highly disappointed with our overall experience. We started with an appetizer of the fried green tomatoes, which tasted as good as in the past, but came with one less portion than I had gotten at brunch just a few weeks earlier. They are good, but I'm not sure they are $5 per slice of tomato good. After our server (who was also working as a bartender) brought our drinks, we didn't see her again for at least 30 minutes. Since different kitchen staff brought the food out, my party was waiting to ask the waitress for a few things. By the time the server came to see us, most of my group had been out of our drinks for a while. Our entrees took a long time to come out. I ordered the thick cut pork chop and had been struggling to cut it using only a butter knife, seeing as no one came to check on us so I could ask for a proper steak knife. A majority of the food was more bland than I had remembered in the past. We ordered two desserts: the lava chocolate cake and the pecan pie. Both were good. I had asked the server prior to ordering if the pecan pie came out warm or cold. She said she didn't know since it was a new addition to the menu (this doesn't speak highly to how management introduces new items). Since she wasn't sure, I asked for it to be warmed up. A different kitchen staff member brought it out cold. At this point, we gad been in the restaurant for almost 2 hours and I didn't have any fight left in me. I am highly disappointed in our visit and personally embarrassed I took my mom here for what was supposed to be a special holiday dinner.
7 SEP Update: After the terrible Mother's Day story I cited above, I decided to give this place another try. My wife and I went back for Sunday brunch. We ordered a couple of appetizers and entrees. We were on a little bit of a timetable having about 45 minutes available but that didn't seem like a big deal as the restaurant was at less than 50% capacity. After 35 minutes passed with no appetizers and no status update from the server, I finally had to flag her down and ask what the deal was. We got our apps at the 40 minute mark and had to have our entrees boxed up. It's such a darn shame that this restaurant has great ambiance and good food but continues to be content with...
Read moreMy parents were in town and they prefer fine dining experiences. I was happy to take them to The Revivalist as I had read some good reviews. We went on Sunday September 4th. It was my birthday and I was excited to try the s’mores dessert I read about. Upon arrival we were immediately seated as I had a reservation. The ambience was nice and the initial staff were friendly. Upon being seated the waiter who was also the bartender(maybe Elijah?), came over and took our drink orders. He wasn’t particularly friendly but wasn’t outright rude initially. He was relatively quick with our drinks. Two of us ordered the filet, my dad had the Cornish hen and my husband had the Steak Frites. Our food came out in a reasonable amount of time and it was good but not great. While eating, we had a few interactions with the waiter where he seemed bothered by us. When we finished our meal, we asked for the dessert menu. When it arrived I was sad to see the s’mores was not listed but did ask about it. The waiter then was a little short and said “ all of the desserts are on the menu”. To be clear I wasn’t asking for them to magically make a s’more appear, I just wondered what happened and thought maybe I mixed up restaurants. We ended up getting the seasonal fruit tartlet. It turns out it is what I would consider deconstructed for lack of better term. It was literally fruit compote covered in a layer of crushed( sand like consistency)unsweetened graham cracker crust. It was a strange consistency. It was not something I enjoyed but I realize it’s a chance you take when trying a new dessert. Overall, the experience was okay. I truly believe that interactions with waiters and staff can make all the difference and I think we would have liked it better had we had more positive interactions with the waiter. I have worked in the service industry and I do not expect people to bend over backwards or rush to do anything as I understand understaffing but I do expect them to not act as if they are bothered by our presence. Overall, I would give the place another try and hope for a different waiter and that they would bring back...
Read moreBeautiful place but sadly the Brunch food was so cheaply made and our experience was so aggravating and insulting. To start with our orders were wrong and after telling our waitress that one one out of 5 of us ordered wasn’t what she order, they still let the plate and told her that’s what she got. They tried to do the same to my other friend but she sent it back. Later once our plates came the avocado toast ( btw is a thin avocado watery spread that will make the toast soaked alone with the watery eggs. The manager will check on us and asked us how was everything and we kindly were honest and shared our concerns, same when we order a cinnamon roll that was hard and dry like beef jerky when we showed him that he said oh yes not point bringing you another one because they all be the same. Overall we rolled with the punches of poor food service, we thought that giving the feedback as far the food was positive, by the time we asked for our checks they had the audacity to changed us 20% ( despite the menu said for tables of 6 or more people.) When we ask why, another waitress said “ they did that because of how our demeanor towards our waitress was” we said excuse me? So you are saying you thought we will take it on our server and no tip her ? That’s not the kind of people we are you don’t even know us, and this young entitled lady started arguing with us saying we made her friend cry , and the manager also backed them up saying “ yes our waitress is very sensitive “ we couldn’t believe how they raised their voice and making excuses for their bad behavior ! Definitely a place I wouldn’t ever recommend , we all come from backgrounds of working with people ( hospital, HR, management) we know how to treat people with respect, but at this place it was valid and ok to disrespect us, judge us , punish us, without having any real reason to do so, sad to see business being run by younger generation without boundaries and respect to...
