We stayed at this hotel this weekend for one night while we were visiting family. I was excited to finally try out the "AC" Marriott line. Now I can mark them off my list and I'm not sure if I'll visit again. I like the concept they are trying to portray: hip, trendy, minimalist. However, I feel like they fall short in many instances.
When I made the reservation, I indicated that we would need an early check-in. We arrive at 10am and I inquired if we could check-in and we were told there were no rooms ready. I wasn't all that surprised since it was so early. The front desk lady took my cell # and said they'd call when a room became available. We waited another hour and then go back to the hotel to see if a room was now available. No rooms available still. She tells me again that they'll call me. We can't wait around the hotel all day because we have to visit family. We leave and don't get back until almost 6pm. Did we ever get a call that a room was ready? No! We finally get to check in at 6pm and we get stuck in an ADA wheelchair room, that we didn't ask for. We didn't mind it so much since the room had a great view of the park & lake.
The rooms itself was very spacious. I don't know if that's because it was wheelchair accessible or if all of their rooms are large. We had a double queen room. First off, the beds were nothing more than metal bed rails that you buy at Walmart for $50. The beds weren't attached to the wall either. You could easily move them around on the hardwood floor because they had wheels! Very cheap in my opinion. The mattresses weren't too bad, they were comfy to me. My husband thought they were more like a cot instead of a real bed. The pillows were okay, nothing great. The bathroom was large and spacious, again, I'm not sure if that's because of the ADA room or not. It had a roll-in shower with a shower seat. I did like the ample counter space and the back-lit mirror. It looked like whoever cleaned that room missed some spots because there was yellow body wash all over the shower seat, soap holders & the trashcan. The room had a fridge, a safe, coffee & plenty of charging stations. I would like to point out that the one piece of art that was hung in the room was crooked.
This hotel doesn't have any amenities at this location other than a gym. No pool. No spa. This hotel has 2 elevators for 6 floors. Only one of the elevators were working during our stay, which caused high wait times. We ended up using the stairs a few times. The female front desk associates that I encountered were short & curt and acted like the customer experience was the last thing on their mind. The only helpful associate was a young man & I didn't happen to get his name. They have a bar on the 1st floor that was very busy! Online it says the bar is on the 2nd floor, but it's moved to the 1st floor. We ordered to-go dinner from this hotel restaurant and ate in the room. It was just okay, nothing to rave about. It would have probably been better if the food was actually warm.
All in all, our stay was just okay. Nothing great, nothing horrible. Do I think this hotel is worth the $200 a night I paid? NO! This is a very...
Read moreVisited Huntsville for the first time to attend a show at the VBC Arena nearby. Staying at this hotel provided convenience to getting to the arena in a short walking distance and avoiding the traffic. Our room had a beautiful view of the downtown area with the park and walking paths. There is a mini fridge in the room and a microwave conveniently located downstairs in the lobby. It was helpful to warm a cup of soup. There are also snacks, beverages and toiletries available for purchase in the lobby. We visited in mid January 2024 when many of the businesses were closed due to the winter storm that brought snow and ice to the streets and highways. This hotel had one of the few restaurants which were open that week. The outdoor fire pits are cozy, however I highly suggest having an emergency plan in place for inclement weather. The sidewalk around the hotel was frozen with almost 2inch layer of ice making it extremely difficult to walk on. I would like to commend Misty- the hotel restaurant manager for hunkering down during that week ensuring that the guests were taken care of while many of the wait/kitchen staff were unable to come in. We observed her wearing multiple hats during that week and she exemplified professionalism, leadership and grace without a single complaint. I’ve worked in the hospitality industry for over three decades and great team members like her are valuable and irreplaceable. I would also like to commend many of the other employee including housekeeping, valet, and front desk staff for they were courteous and very helpful. Also, be careful with the parking situation as we were ticketed by the city (in the midst of a snow/ice storm) at the hotel parking lot even though we had a handicap parking decal displayed. Otherwise we look forward to returning and staying here again to enjoy what downtown Huntsville has to offer and...
Read moreHORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!! Do not stay here! A friend and I traveled to Huntsville for a wedding. We arrived at the AC Hotel by Marriott Huntsville Downtown at around 2:15pm. We went to the front desk in hopes of checking in only 45 minutes early. The front desk attendee said "check in is at 3". That was it. So we waited the additional 45 minutes in the lobby. At 3:00pm we went back to the front desk to check in. She then told us, "we do not have a room available for you, we are overbooked with 3 wedding blocks in house". First of all this information would have been helpful 45 minutes ago when we first tried to check in as we have a shuttle coming to pick us up at 4:30pm. We asked if she had any sort of time estimate for the room should we need to figure out other plans to get ready for the wedding. She looked at us like we had 5 heads and how could she be bothered with our questions. Then she told us "I don't know what else to say to you, I'll call you when your room is ready." Our mouths just hung open. I have NEVER had an experience like this with any hotel. We were also informed that she was the front desk MANAGER?!?! How is that possible?? She was so rude, unresourceful, and unapologetic to us and all of the paying guests. (We were not the only wedding guests standing around the lobby without a room). As we were running out of time before the shuttle was to pick us up we had to get ready...for a wedding...in the HOTEL LOBBY BATHROOM!!! By the way we NEVER received a phone call and didn't get into our room until AFTER the wedding!! I usually prefer to stay at the hotels that used to be under the Starwood umbrella, as their customer service is normally above and beyond. I truly hope that now under the Marriott umbrella they do not lower their standards to what we experienced here. DO NOT STAY at the AC Hotel by Marriott Huntsville...
