Photographed a wedding here in October, and absolutely loved it! The Weeden House is a beautiful historical home, perfect for a backyard wedding under the pecan trees. It gets gorgeous light in the evening, is close to downtown for photos around Huntsville, and is one of those rare venues that has equally nice getting ready suites for both the bride and the groom. Parking is limited, so be aware of that as you make your preparations! Sarah Mismash Photography Huntsville, AL Wedding Photographer

The historic home set within Huntsville oldest, beautiful neighborhood is worth a visit. Its most famous owner was one Howard Weeden who is most noted for her sensitive and impressive portraits of African Americans. The furnishings are not original, but there are some lovely antiques to admire. The tour guide's presentation could be a bit more sophisticated when speaking to adults, but don't let that stop you from stopping here for a tour. Note: Visitors must be able to climb stairs.

Gina James was amazing. My husband and I had the best time on our Weeden House tour. Gina was extremely knowledgeable, entertaining, and interacted with us, which we thought was great. Aside from our great tour guide, this home and its history is just fascinating. I highly recommend a tour.

This is a museum in the private home of artist and poet (Maria) Howard Weeden. The cost is $5 and the tour is about an hour long. I found it to be a fascinating glimpse into not only Weeden's life and art, but also the early history of Huntsville and North Alabama. Like many private museums, Weeden house has had to branch out to make ends meet so they rent the place out as an event venue as well. This means that Lynn, their lone employee is stretched rather thin as tour guide, event coordinator, curator and hostess so you should make an appointment for the guided tour. Nevertheless, she was as gracious and informative a hostess as you could wish for. Word of caution- there are stairs so if you have mobility issues you may miss the upstairs part...

Places to visit in Huntsville, AL? The Weeden House for sure belongs to be in the top 5. Overview of the history what starts with the fact that the house was built the same year,1819, when Alabama became a State. The house was the home of the painter & poet Maria Howard Weeden. Her painting are amazing. Hard to believe what she was able to do with tiny number of hairs as a brush. Unbelievable precise portraits of African American ordinary residence of Huntsville at that time leave you impresion that they like to communicate with you. Thank you Gina who provide to us a wonderful full hour tour. Your enthusiasm was visible and we left the Museum with the impression that we fulfill our goal to learn more about American history and history...

This is my favorite history tour in Huntsville. It combines history and art. The antebellum house is a gem of interesting preserved features that make you feel like you're stepping back in time. It was also fascinating to see the art and hear about the life of a forgotten Alabama female artist. I would say more, but I don't want to spoil the fun of finding out about her subjects and how she worked. Historian Gina led our tour with such enthusiasm, humor, and knowledge that we were sad it couldn't have lasted longer. I highly...
