I ordered the fried combo basket (shrimp and catfish). I asked if it came with hush puppies and was told I could substitute my fried for hush puppies, so I did. When my food came out it was done, but barely. Could have used another minute cooking to get the batter golden brown. It came out with fries and no hush puppies. No big deal, I got the servers attention and kindly let her know. She apologized and walked back to the kitchen. A few minutes later she came back and informed me that my hush puppies are being cooked right now and took my whole plate back to the kitchen to swap my fries out for hush puppies. I’ve never experience this before. It’s been my experience that when something is mixed up the food that was brought out stays and the missing item is brought out as well. Thus fixing their mistake. I feel like it’s unsanitary to take a plate of food that someone has already started eating back to the kitchen to swap out an item. I can only hope they threw the fries away and didn’t serve them to the next person. If that is the case they can’t serve them to anyone else so why not just leave them at the table instead of throwing them away. That aside when I got the check there was a substitution charge for the hush puppies. I get it substituted items sometimes have an up charge. It wasn’t on the menu and the server didn’t inform me of the extra charge. Not only that I received a “side order” instead of a “full order”. Additionally on my check was a cash price and a higher credit card price. I asked since I was using a debit card would I be charged the cash price. The server went on to say that fee isn’t a credit card fee it’s a fee that the mall charges the restaurant b/c they are on mall property and that charged is passed down from them. Nothing they could do. However the cash price didn’t have the “mall” fee that was clearly labeled a credit card fee on the tab. I proceeded to use my card and when the final receipt came it was then called a “non-cash fee”. It’s clear that the restaurant is passing on their merchant processing fees to their customers and lying to them about it in an effort to reduce the number of upset customers for having that charge passed on to them. All said and done we won’t be going back. Food should have been better and the restaurant should be more transparent with their additional charges not to mention unsanitary practices in...
Read moreI’m trying to figure out how this place has all these good ratings. Went to this place on a whim as we were nearby. Went in and there was only one other table with customers and a couple of waitresses. We were seated quickly and brought menus. We ordered our food and it came to our within a reasonable time. I ordered chicken tenders and fries which arrived hot like they were fresh out of the fire. The tenders had no flavor and neither did the fries though. My you g son can season some chicken tenders and fries, so I was surprised these adults couldn’t/didn’t . They did give you big pieces of tenders and a nice portion of fries. My wife ate some of the snow crab and that was lukewarm at best. She then tried the shrimp which was tepid. We waited a few minutes for the waitress to come back around but she didn’t. Finally I got up and went over to the waitress as she was standing at the entrance of the restaurant. I informed her of what happened and she apologized, took our plate and brought it to the manager at the front of the restaurant. From a distance I could see them talking. The waitress comes back and says they would only charge for the shrimp because she ate it and of course the tenders because I was eating it. Now at almost any other restaurant, if the food is less than stellar, you would receive a refund. I take a few more bites of my tenders and fries and we go up to the front and ask to speak to the manager. The individual at the front says I am the manager. We explain to him what happened and he says well you ate it so you have to pay for it. We tell him that food should not come out cold, etc and we ask him how do you normally handle situations like this. He said we can give you a gift card. No way I want a gift card from this establishment with bland, dry, cold food. We asked to speak to the general manager, he said he is the general manager as well. This individual appeared to not even care.
First impressions last forever, but sometimes you don’t get a chance for second impression. This is a restaurant we don’t ever plan to spend money at again.
I see why it’s called the Laughing Crab: Either you will be laughing once you eat the food, or they will be laughing at...
Read moreTook the wife on a shopping spree at the mall, she works really hard and deserved a day of pampering. Decided to eat lunch at the laughing crab since we've never been. We placed our order, and after some time, the kids' meal came out. A while later, the crab boil came out. after another long wait the cook came out and asked what we ordered. I ordered the fried combo for my wife before i ordered my crab boil. My wife likes to tell me what she wants and has me order for the table when asked. Since they brought out two meals at different times we kept waiting for my wife's meal. Couldn't find our waitress at times, we finally found her and added a small order and i asked for butter to dip my crab, still waiting for my wife's food. (I got charged for the butter! Who does that at a crab / seafood place? The Waitress brought the butter and disappeared again. The cook came back and we told them we were still waiting for her food. The waitress finally came back over and proceeded to try and take her order. When we told her we already ordered she looked dumbfounded. If you have three people at a table and you only write down two orderes, wouldn't you clarify with the third person. After i was almost done with my food did she realize her mistake, my wife was upset and said to not place an order for her. After that the waitress was obnoxiously prudent (clearly concerned only about her tip) with our table almost to the point if she came over one more time my wife was going to yell at her. It was 1:30 or so in the afternoon and not busy at all, need to do some retraining and maybe read back the order to clarify or use basic common sense when you have only teo irders for a table of...
