It wasn't until recently that we started to frequent Skyline Chili. There's no reason why we didn't go often before, there are just SO many food options along what I'm going to call the Hurstbourne Corridor that it didn't really bubble up to the surface. A couple months back we were looking for something that was different, relatively fast, wouldn't break the bank, and (most importantly right now), that we could eat in. We were actually headed somewhere else when I spotted Skyline Chili and said to the wife, "The Wife, how about Skyline Chili?!?!". She said "That sounds awesome!"
I love the laid-back dining experience at Skyline. No hostess stand for you to wait at and hand you a menu, then escort you to a table. Walk in, find an open table, and have a seat. The server brings Oyster crackers and a smile within minutes, takes your drink order, and asks if you need a menu.
The menu isn't extensive, but it covers all the bases. They've got wraps, salads, burritos, chili dogs, bowls of chili, and a kids menu. And, of course 3-, 4- and 5-way Chili, which looks AMAZING. Your food is prepared in plain sight behind the counter, and the food delivery is surprisingly fast.
I'm the kind of guy who finds something he likes at an eatery and tends to stay with it. That brings me to the Chili Deluxe Burrito. I don't know that I've had anything else on the menu because this is so friggin' good. Skyline chili wrapped in a tortilla, then smothered with more chili with a bunch of other stuff that makes it an amazingly beautiful entrée. I always onion on the inside and then opt for the Extreme Habanero Cheese (a slight upcharge) to zestify (yea, I just made that word up) the experience. I love this thing to death. It looks huge (see my posted photo) but at the end of the meal you're not stuffed. It actually pretty perfectly portioned.
The staff here is always friendly and helpful, even down to servers helping tables that aren't theirs. That's kind of teamwork that makes a great establishment. If we need a drink refill other servers don't mind helping. In some eateries servers can be territorial, deferring to the "I'll let your server know". Not here. Nope. They all work together, from making sure you've got everything you need to cleaning tables to following COVID precautions.
Thanks for being awesome,...
Read moreMyself my husband and our children went to Skyline today after attending church. After eating my sister in law met us to give us ceramics that we had previously painted. After letting the kids play in the grass and talking to my sister in law for about 45 minutes we put the kids in the car. My husband informed me that the kids had found a large egg in the grass area that had been abandoned. So myself and my husband went to check it out. We walked over to the grass area which is a 2.5ft wall. We sit to down on the wall before I walked to the car to get an old piece of clothing and my phone to see what the best thing to do for a goose egg was. After sitting on the wall again to search Google (mind you we are in church attire), a skyline employee comes out to tell us customers had complained they were worried about us being near their car (just one) and that they didnt feel safe with it....."ya know for security and privacy reasons". Mind you we never once touched nor looked at their car. We were at least a good foot away from it. We were focused solely on the egg in the grass. I'm confused what two people in church clothes in broad daylight would do to a vehicle. Unless it was just because we were black standing next to their car. It was so embarrassing that we were basically made to look like criminals, we didnt put up a fight or argue over the situation with the employee. We come here quite often (I was raised in Cincinnati so I love the chili) and have never experienced anything like this. Very disappointed in Skyline and the customer who complained. I doubt we will be back and instead of recommending the place like we always do I'm going to instead warn ppl of the profiling...
Read moreLet me preface this by saying we love Skyline Chili in our house . However our latest visit just left my scratching my head. Prime dinner time at 6:30 PM and we walk in to a fairly full restaurant. There is one young lady waiting tables and 4 gentlemen working behind the counter. After sitting and waiting for menus for 15 minutes, it is clear to me that this is going to be a problem. When we finally get menus and are ready to order, I order a salad with no onions and ask for a Chilito with beans added.
When the food arrives I get a salad with onions and no tomatoes and a chilito. My husband gets the cheese coneys. When the waitress gets back to us I reminded her that I did not want onions on my salad but did want tomatoes. Five mi minutes later, I get a salad , no onions and no tomatoes. I precede to just eat that. When she stopped by to check on us, I asked if she could bring me a knife for the chilito and let her know that the salad had no tomatoes on it but told her I was making due with it. She brought out a bowl of chopped tomatoes when I clearly had 2 bites of salad left and no knife. My husband went to the waiter station and got me a knife at that point.
While this was not the server's fault at all as she was completely slammed, I wondered what the 4 guys behind the counter were doing such that one of then could not come help. Cross training is definitely...
