My wife and I read the reviews about this place and looked at the overwhelming amount of people that had a great experience. So, we needed to have an experience here as well.
When entering the restraunt, an employee greeted us at the door and seated us promptly (we were eating on Monday at 5:40pm).
The restraunt had a good mixture of customers from young teens to senior citizens. The place was busy but not packed on this day and at that time.
Our waitress was a lady named "Kim S." and she was professional from start to finish. She checked on us and provided refills and answered our questions about the menu.
The pricing was fair and each table had a message from the owner explaining about price increases and why. I would not say they are overpriced and I would not say they are cheap. They are fair pricing and the food was worth every penny.
Atmosphere: The noise level was not loud, just normal customers chatting and staff communicating with each other. I even saw staff turn off a juke box at a table that was no longer being used. As for the jukebox, it has a switch so a person on one side can hear the music or a person on the other side or it can be turned off. The music was placed at a volume level so I could enjoy it and my wife could hear it at a lower level.
Food: My wife had a burger (Guacamole I believe) and I had the open faced chili burger. Both tasted VERY good and a heaping amount of fries was given. We also enjoyed two shakes and they were delicious đ
Yes, we would come back to "Dixie's Diner" because it was everything the masses of people said it was. A very good experience.
We are a couple passing through to enjoy other sights and experiences on our vacation and this place was awesome. ...
Read moreToday was the strangest dining experience I've ever had. My wife ordered a short stack of pancakes (2) with a side of sausage (4). When our meals came, all she got was sausage, but there were 6 patties on her plate. We asked about the pancakes and the server disappeared for a minute, then came back to explain that there was a mix-up inputting the order so instead of 4 patties + 2 pancakes we got 6 patties. She promised to resolve that ASAP. So far so good, right? But then the server took my wife's plate of 6 sausage patties and carried it to a prep station that was right next to our table. There, the server pulled off two patties, threw those in the trash, and then gave back to my wife the 4 remaining patties. Several minutes later she returned again with a plate of 2 pancakes. We were laughing out loud. They originally screwed up an order (no biggie, it happens) but then came to our table to very obviously take back the 2 mistaken sausage patties my wife didn't deserve with her order. Can you imagine? What sort of service recovery is that? "Sorry we messed up but dang we're not about to let you have the 2 mistaken sausage patties!" :-) We are still laughing about that. Here's the ultimate irony: When we got our bill it was not for the short stack plus side but it was all charged separately so we were actually OVERcharged for the meal that they screwed up in timing and handling. Anyway, the place was packed so obviously Dixie's is doing something right, and I wish them the best. Restaurants all need our support in 2021. But OMG get the staff some service training. I still can't believe how all those errors came together in one person's meal. "Be sure you get back those two undeserved...
Read moreMy wife and I have frequently visited this popular diner, comfortable with the service and very satisfied with the food, price and atmosphere. And because of this I can't begin to tell you how sadly surprised I was on our last, most recent visit.
I absolutely love the senior member's pot roast dinner, but always make it a point to discard the broccoli (which I can't have) for extra cauliflower (which I relish)! But on this particular evening my order came with a mound of cauliflower only partially cooked and so hard that I couldn't easily cut into it, let alone chew it!
I didn't want to make an issue of it at the time and, instead, occupied myself with enjoying the savory pot roast and mashed potatoes. When our waitress/hostess eventually came by with the check, I pointed the obvious out to her as a matter of information for the future. But she only casually stated that "the boys sometimes get ahead of themselves!" I let the matter drop since it was equally obvious that the staff, some of whom I'd never seen before, appeared to be a little overwhelmed on that evening. And, in fact, my wife and I momentarily wondered if Dixie's Diner had come under a new management!
I know that this must sound rather picky of me. Dixie's has always been a most enjoyable and satisfying dining venue for us, here in Idaho Falls, and part of that is the also due to the interesting folks and families who make it a frequent selection on their dine-out cards. And I suppose that cauliflower isn't always the easiest thing to prepare and have ready to serve. But if the "boys in the back need a little extra time to do it right," then my wife and I can certainly sip our drinks and enjoy those...
