I was really excited for a new sandwich shop in Boise, especially because it had good ratings. Unfortunately, I was pretty underwhelmed. Got three sandwiches, (House Club, Chicken Club, BLT) and none of them were very good.
Taste (2/10) The bread wasn't bad, as the highlight. It had a crunchy exterior and soft interior that you'd want out of sandwich bread. However, the meat wasn't good. The chicken was really bland and had a bad texture like it was sitting in a crockpot for too long. The bacon was little chunks of bacon, not strips, and tasted like it came from those bargain bacon packs you get on the cheap from Winco. I actually removed the bacon and roast beef from the second half of my House Club sandwich, and then gave up all together and tossed it.
Price (4/10) It was about 10 bucks a sandwich, which isn't awful, except when you compare the quality of sandwich you get. This place has better bread and equivalent meat to a Jimmy Johns or Subway, but for equally priced sandwich shops, you'd get a better deal at Sourdough Eatery or Firehouse Subs. I ended up paying 45 bucks for 3 sandwiches and a couple chip/drink combos, and definitely didn't feel as if I got my money for roughly 15 a person, even post inflation. Not an awful price. Not a great price.
Other (5/10) This is clearly a family owned shop, and I like supporting locals. But when they're walking in and out of the kitchen with a baby on their hip, that's not a great vibe. The place looks fairly nice, but I was more than a little concerned with the kitchen standards, and they took a long time to make 3 sandwiches.
I usually give a place 2 tries before I review it, but I don't see myself eating here again unless I'm feeling real adventurous. I've read good things about their pork online, and wish I'd tried that instead. But I just really, really didn't enjoy my food.
If you want "the best sandwiches in Boise", you probably should head to Uncle Giuseppes down on State St, because that's still it.
Edit: I was sick for 4 hours after eating here. My body liked it even less than...
Read moreUnderrated and underappreciated sandwich shop. We ordered the turkey classic and jive club. The bread was warm and soft, perfect thickness ratio to the toppings. I’m usually a very saucey type person but the meat was juicy and tender I didn’t need anything extra. The pickles were sweet, I don’t like sweet pickles however they paired with the sand which perfectly. The owner (and I believe operator/sandwich maker) was very kind in taking our order. The wait was equal to sitting down at a restaurant, it’s not fast food. You can tell he put effort and care into the sandwiches, how they were stacked and wrapped. Definitely a homey vibe. The man had a kind smile and thanked everyone for their patience. The decor is simple and old school, clean & classic. I’ll definitely be coming back. Roughly $10 for each sandwich. Compared to other shops like subway, jimmy johns, firehouse subs, the price is amazing and the sandwiches are way better. Doesn’t leave you feeling like you just had fast food. The only thing I’d recommend is to have a computer up front so customers can put their orders in while he’s in the back making them, that way he wouldn’t have to pause and come take your order each time. Overall great sandwich, service, and...
Read moreVisited MB Sandwich House with a larger party. The man at the front counter was very welcoming, asking how we were and if we had visited before. When we asked for him to explain the menu, he was very helpful, and suggested a few popular items. The ordering process was very streamlined, and there were no mistakes.
I ordered the chicken Alfredo sandwich, which had bacon, mayonnaise, Alfredo sauce, and chicken. The other members of my party sampled other things from the menu, and the general consensus was that the food was excellent. I specifically enjoyed the bread, which had a nice crust but was slightly doughy on the inside, which complemented the textures of the sandwich well. This bread was all house-made, and the dough was visible in the fridge.
Since we were a large party, it took some time for the order to come out. Considering how many items we ordered, it was very reasonable though, as only one person was taking orders, answering calls, and making the food.
Overall, I would highly recommend this location if you are looking for a standard sandwich or something out of the ordinary. The prices were quite reasonable, and the selection offered is a lot better than some other...
