Planet Fitness — Local services in Garden City

My Boyfriend and I came to workout this Saturday… I was excited to try out planet fitness with his guest pass and was thinking of signing up for a membership myself. We were bummed to see the gym closed at 7pm cause we arrived at 6:30pm but we said no problem we understood the lady working (Melissa) didn’t make the rules. We were just happy to get a quick workout in and for me to check the place out.

First off we understand the service industry and didn’t wanna keep her overtime so we were paying attention to the clock. Suddenly at 6:55 Melissa shut all the lights off so it was pitch black in the middle of me lifting weights. One that it so dangerous to do to someone in the middle of a workout with weights. And Two it was just so rude when we still had 5 minutes to do another set. So we started walking to our lockers to get out of there. As I’m washing my hands in the bathroom she starts flickering the lights so I decided to run out to put my boots on by the exit door instead. We walked out by 7:01 and she acted as if we were so disrespectful keeping her one minute past close. If she hadn’t been so aggressively trying to get us out and yelling at us to hurry we probably would have been out of there at 7pm on the dot. I’ve worked plenty jobs in the service industry and I would have never treated a customer like that for keep me ONE minute past close. I could see 15 minutes being frustrating but even that wouldn’t excuse her behavior towards us.

Update: They have changed the way Black Card members access amenities and it is beyond terrible. Crunch has the same type of amenities and free weights. If you are looking for some of the amenities like tanning and massage there are better gyms that make them more readily available. If you are looking for an inexpensive gym Idaho Fitness Factory has a similar rate and 24 hour access. Something Planet Fitness had promised (when I signed up they said they would only be closed Christmas) but has not come through on. There are just better options when it come to a gym.

While it is true they do not have free weights that you would find in a standard gym, they do have an array of weight machines, Smith machines, and a full wall of dumbbells. I work temporarily in Boise throughout the year and tonight was my first time at this Planet Fitness or any Planet Fitness for that matter. The location is convenient and the gym was pretty clean especially considering that I arrived about an hour after the evening rush subsided. I was initially greeted by a very courteous staff member. He very politely explained their hours and that they offered a $5 weekly fee (which fits my schedule perfectly). He got me signed up, explained the check in process for the rest of the week and the gym to me. I was pleased to find the place pretty open, only about ten other people working out. Tons of cardio equipment, stretching room, a lot of machines and a ton of core options. Lots of Smith Machines, free weights and benches. Only downside for me was there are no bench press stations, you have to use the Smith Machines and a portable bench. By no means the end of the world, especially given the price.
