Wanted to try this place because the menu looked amazing. First of all the servers are so knowledgeable and friendly. However the food was just ok. We didnāt enjoy our entrees, but the grilled calamari appetizer was fine. We had a few apps, a few cocktails, and a few entrees, but the only thing we liked was the grilled calamari. We spent $230 (tip included) and were a little disappointed because we kept ordering more hoping it would get better. I was hoping the server would catch our vibe and communicate with the manager about our experience. Instead the manager noticed, checked on us, asked for feedback and apologized. He invited us back for a second try and said heāll ātake care of usā if we decided to come back. We chose to take him up on his offer and try it for a weekend dinner (2 days later).
So the second night we had wine, a cocktail, 2 appetizers and 1 entree. Side note: I have a lot of restaurant management experience in chicago. So I know that if I told a guest i would take care of them then dinner is on me for the bad experience they had last time. With this is mind, we made sure we did not order too much and be considerate. Once we finished our food which was mediocre again... we got charged a full bill!! ($150 tip included) Wait, actually we got a round of drinks ācompedā. That equaled $22 I was very disappointed and honestly wish we didnāt give it another chance. I live in chicago and I wouldāve never traveled to elmhurst for 2 free glasses of wine after spending/wasting $400 within 2 days at that restaurant. Taking care of your guest is more valuable than a comped bill or comped entrees. Itās not worth risking...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy husband and I usually go out for a nice dinner at least once on the weekends, topaz, carnivore and the queen, Edie & Merlotās, etc. but when we have our granddaughter overnight, we order pick up & eat at home. Carnivore & the Queen was closed for a couple of weeks for holiday, so we decided to try victory. We were incredibly disappointed. My husband got there right on time when the order was supposed to be ready and ended up waiting for nearly 40 minutes for the food to actually be ready. The host was pleasant and tried to be accommodating, but the kitchen manager or back of the house manager was completely rude, could not care less about getting an order out for carry out and was actually surly about it. On their website they clearly state they welcome curbside and pick up orders in addition to dine in, but it was evident that that is not the case. Carnivore & the Queen is not too far from Elmhurst & is an incredibly elegant, beautiful space, the food is consistently very high-quality and the owners and staff are tremendous hosts. Whether we dine in or pick up, itās always the same, delicious food in a warm welcoming environment with a truly gracious staff. When my husband got home with the food from Victory, steaks, asparagus and the wedge, it was fine, but nothing to write home about. Due to the rude way he was treated while waiting for the food, weāll never be back to victory, and we would never recommend it to anyone. If you donāt want people to pick up food from your place, donāt advertise...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI have driven by Victory for years and never knew what a delicious find this place was. We would go downtown Chicago for years to get oysters. Recently we were walking downtown Elmhurst and though let's just try an appetizer at Victory. It was happy hour so we enjoyed our cocktails and order 6 oysters. Big mistake. There was nothing absolutely nothing wrong about the oysters, nor how it was beautifully displayed nor their three different sauces (cocktailsauce/horseraddish, pesto jalapeno (which I thought I would not like but it was exceedingly surprisngly amazign), and a delicious vinegarette), nor the fantastic professional on POINT STAFF... The mistake was we only ordered 6.. we order 40 more!!!! It wasn't just the flavor and the taste of the sea that helped us to make this choice. But knowing that their momma mia east coast oyster at happy hour are $2 an oyster.........completely sold itself. I will never ever stop by in town and not visit my new favorite place, VICTORY.
THEY DO NOT MISS ONE DETAIL. FROM THEIR STAFF, TO THE FOOD/DRINKS, THE DESIGN OF THE PLACE, THEIR BEAUTIFUL BLUE/WHITE PLATES. I can't believe I have wasted so many years not dining at Victory.
The only thing I would suggest is to turn down the music for conversations....
