So I had only visited a City Barbeque once years ago. I had a friend drive into town for a funeral and he wanted to meet afterwards. He chose here. I think the first overall issue I noticed was they were understaffed, which is common about any place these days. If they were staff properly, then management needs to rethink their staffing. A very kind young man was at the register and my card locked the system up. He had to get assistance a few times from the other young man that was prepping all the food for pickup. We moved to the other register which was not open so he could complete my transaction. By this time, I believe there were probably 7 orders behind me lined up to the door. I chose a back booth in the corner because we had a service dog with us, and I actually had to wipe the table and the booth seats off. My food came up, but we never heard my friend's name called. His name is Steve but they had his name as Stan, so we really weren't listening for a Stan to be called. He got quite an assortment and was happy with everything, especially the collard greens. I tried a few of the meats and they were good as well. I had the PitMaster Nachos. The cheese on the nachos looked like, had the consistency of and sort of tasted like gravy. I wanted more BBQ sauce on them, so I went to the self-serve station and the container was empty of small plastic cups. I took it up front and had them put a few more in so I as well as other customers could get some barbecue sauce. I will stress the service wasn't bad and the two young men at the front counter I believe were trying their best. I spend a lot of time in the service industry, and I believe they are being robbed of a good customer service training experience. The rest of the experience was...mehhhh, at best. So now I've been to the City Barbeque not too far from my house. I won't be going back anytime soon, and for the sake of the employees and other customers, I hope they make some changes. I simply won't be the one experiencing them. I will say one bonus was I downloaded the app before I went just to see if there were any rewards for joining. It does give you a $5 coupon off, so at least I didn't pay a lot for my meal. I got my nachos and a water for under 5 bucks. Be sure to download that...
Read moreAre you serious? Has no one ever replied to your response? Your response is at minimum is disingenuous, or more realistically an out right lie. Hickory wood stacked high? Are you serious? Nothing is stacked, I don't consider a few wood scraps laying next to a natural gas powered "smoker" to be Hickory "stacked high". Ask for Chris...for proper smoke level? Checked 3-4 times a day? Give me a break. Zero smoky smell in your parking lot, zero smoky taste in your "barbecue". I have had the pleasure of experiencing some of the most excellent barbecue in Texas, Arizona. Very good barbecue in Alabama, Kentucky, Missouri, Illinois and Indiana. Your miniscule portions of overpriced "barbecue" do not qualify as barbecue. No wonder you have plenty of parking, zero lines and plenty of seating.
Fairly poor example of barbecue. Miniscule portions, very high prices, for awful barbecue. Their "smokers" use gas. There are a few sticks of actual wood... maybe hickory? mesquite? laying by the smokers. Doesn't matter... they may have been laying there for many years .... unused. There is zero smoky smell in the parking lot (not a good sign for a "barbecue" place), zero smoky flavor... and I mean zero (absolutely none) flavor in the brisket or pulled pork I ordered. Every barbecue place I have ever visited in Dallas...awesome, Fort Worth...awesome, Austin... beyond awesome. Rudy's, a chain in the Southwest...infinitely better. All of the above locations actually smoke brisket and pork. City Barbecue?.?.? might as well be cooked in a natural gas oven, in your kitchen. They got my $20 for miniscule, beyond cheap lunch portions of what they claim to be barbecue. They win, they got my $20. I will never, ever go back there again. If it isn't too long of a drive, and you want real barbecue, there is a hole in the wall restaurant that... by far, serves the best barbecue in...
Read moreThis was our first time eating at City Barbecue. My son and I ordered the chicken. I got the breast and wing along with a side salad and mac & cheese. The chicken was moist and flavorful. The salad was spring mix with grape tomatoes, cucumbers and red onion. It was refreshing. The mac & cheese was good but nothing special. My son ordered the half chicken with baked beans. Again, the chicken was moist and flavorful. Seriously, y'all, the chicken is a must! He enjoyed the beans as well. They have brisket in them. My husband apparently thought he had grown a second stomach and thus ordered one of the large meat platters. It can with sausage, brisket and turkey. The sausage was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. The turkey was deliciously moist and flavorful. Neither of us preferred the brisket. It was okay but nowhere near the level of the sausage or the turkey. He also ordered the collard greens and the mac & cheese. Again, the mac & cheese was okay but not great. But he wouldn't shut.up about how good the greens were. Although, he did say that they were a bit salty. All of our food came with garlic Texas toast which we all enjoyed. We also had fun trying all of the available sauces. My favorite was the mustard sauce. My husband and son preferred the original. I do recommend this restaurant but know that you order...
