I wish I could give Lic’s a higher rating because I've been a loyal customer for years, ever since I was a kid. Now, as a parent with young children, Lic’s has become one of our go-to spots for a treat. My kids love getting a bite of ice cream now and then, and we often find ourselves here. The old-fashioned interior design adds a nostalgic charm, and whenever we dine inside, we’re always greeted with warmth and hospitality. I've consistently felt well taken care of during those visits.
However, my recent experience at the drive-thru has made me reconsider my overall rating. The other day, after the lunch rush, my family of four decided to grab some food to go. Normally, I’d go inside, but we were in a bit of a hurry, so we opted for the drive-thru. When I pulled up to the speaker, they asked me to wait, which was fine since I hadn’t decided what we all wanted yet. After settling on four meals and two kiddie cups of ice cream, I started to order when prompted. But after placing my order, I was met with silence. I had to ask, "Hello?" before they told me to go ahead and continue. It was frustrating but not a big deal. I repeated the order, confirmed it was correct, and then drove up to the window.
At this point, I was still the only car in line. The person at the window handed me the two kiddie cups, which I placed in the cup holders, and then I waited for the rest of our food. And waited. After 15 minutes, the ice cream had started to melt, and a line of cars had formed behind me. Finally, they handed me two of the four meals. Another five minutes passed before they gave me the rest. The cashier, clearly frustrated, asked if anything was missing. I said no, and as she shut the window, I heard her mutter, “Well good then.”
When I got home, I had to refreeze the ice cream for my kids to avoid a meltdown (literally and figuratively), which took about 30 minutes. The food itself was just okay. We ordered grilled cheese sandwiches, among other things, but the chips were placed on top of the sandwiches, making them soggy.
Overall, I was disappointed with the experience. I’ll still come to Lic’s, but from now on, I’ll stick to going inside. I hope this was just an off day for the staff and that future visits...
Read moreUpdate as of 2/24/24... Went through the drive through and was told that I would be attended to in just a moment. After waiting for about 8 minutes and seeing the car behind me leave, I decided to leave as well. The service at this Lic's is comically poor. If you have high school kids working and essentially running a restaurant, there are going to be opportunities for improvement. However, the silence from the management about this rating and my previous reviews is deafening. Poor leadership leads to poor employee performance. Avoid this Lic's and go somewhere else.
Update as of 3/22/23... Charging $5.55 for a milkshake that is only 80% full. That's the update. Disappointed... I'll go elsewhere.
Update... Removing two stars because the drive through service has been so slow the last two times I've been to the Newburgh location. Still good food, but inexcusably slow .
Classic ice cream and sandwich restaurant. Both of which are very good. However, the service is a bit slow the few times I've been in and driven through. Definitely recommend if your...
Read moreVery disappointed I took my kids out to treat them for ice cream. Saw the open sign open and the door open with other customers inside, so we walked in. The first thing we hear is a guy from the back asking the girls at the counter what time was it and they replied 9:31! I didn’t think there was a problem I stood at the counter for what felt like forever waiting for someone to say “hello” or ask " can I help you “ or just acknowledge I was there. The girl behind the counter stood in front of me silent just staring at me ….. I finally had to speak out and ask what the problem was, and i felt that they didn’t want to take my order. So I asked is it closing time or what was the problem. The lady waiting for her shake that was inside ahead of us must have felt the tension and tried to be nice and tell me that I can order and they do t close till 10:30! The customer ! Not the employees…… the girl at the counter told her “ our lobby closes at 9:30. I knew they didn’t not want to take my order, so I walked out and will...
