I've tried many indian/paki restaurants so I have a very good def of what's good and bad. Plus I'm brown. So far the place to beat has been hyderabad house and biryani house. I wanted to try something new for my bday and after looking at the menu online it seemed different and I brought the family here. I was wanting to try their sushi so that brought me in. Prices seemed average to high but not extreme. The greeter / server .. top notch. Efficient, attentitive and cleaning table frequently. I started off with sushi and got told we dont have sushi. We put the order in for samosa, pepper fry, Dhaba murg, paneer lababdar, and the stuffed eggplant. And of course Naan and 2 cokes. My thinking was usually all desi restaurants will have a small cup of rice. Yeah wrong thinking here. But I didn't mind. Water is poured and it's literal tap water. Ok that's fine. Another guy comes with small glasses of soft drinks. Mind you I had planned on a can for the high price at least a bottle soda. Samoa comes out and for $8... trust me Shani's kitchen samosa are well worth it's price. The chutney was the best part. The chicken pepper fry comes out and looks appealing. . But eating it was like eating bad Chinese food with chunks of thigh pieces with more fat and skin left on. My expectations were it was going to be chicken breat pieces. Well now I know to ask. Main dishes come out. My dad asked no rice? Naan, we got one garlic and three regular. When it came out they were the size of two Naans and they resembled what you would pick up at patels or any Indian grocery.. actually it's called deep's tandoori Naan. The chicken was the chef special... but where was it. Once again my assumption was bone in means whole chicken or actual leg pieces. They were tiny thigh pieces chopped up from a time when chicken were experiencing famine and were meatless. It also seemed as if it was straight frozen and put in the pot to cook because it had that hard to pull off the bone texture usually you get when chicken is raw or undercooked. It was definitely not thawed before cooking. There was a good two three pounds of Masala covering each dish. Once again fusion I'm thinking more for local ccrowd less heavy. There was so much masala you had to dig around to find a piece of chicken. The paneer I understand it did say two bed of curries. But both the chicken and eggplant unbelievable amount. I'm still unable to digest it two days later. Once again the greeter was top notch . Taking plates away I had a whole Plate of fat and skin I picked off the pepper fry, he brought out new plates topped off water. My dad wanted to try the pineapple rabri.. ... well his words wore sub condense milk mai ghot Dia. Basically means it tasted like condense milk with no pineapple...
Read moreIt’s gonna be hard to not write a novel about this place. Guess I’ll start with the aesthetics. At first glance you enter on the dining side, which has booths and tables to accommodate parties of about 8 adults. Then there is a lounge side with a full bar and seating the runs along the wall. The staff is very attentive, knowledgeable and polite. Not one, not two, but three different staff approached me about the food and made sure I was pleased and not lacking. Each one offered historical knowledge of my dishes and explained the popularity of each in India.
Okay now to the good part. I ordered the Chicken Butter Masala with cumin rice and Garlic Naan. I was informed by the staff that this was a very basic Indian dish. Upon my return I should definitely try the goat and lamb dishes. (Will do!) However basic, the flavor combinations were amazingly tasty. The fluffiest rice I’ve ever had in my life. For dessert I had the Gulab Jamun and the Pistachio Kulfi. Which is like a flour cake donut soaked in sugar water and Pistachio ice cream respectively. All in all, just come check out 1947. You will not be disappointed.
