Leviathan Bakeshop is an enchanting gem that deserves all the accolades. My recent visit was nothing short of extraordinary, with a myriad of delights that left my taste buds dancing with joy.
The Citrus Cloud Tart is a masterpiece, with its delicate balance of tangy citrus and airy sweetness. Each bite felt like a breath of fresh air, a perfect harmony of flavors.
The Strawberry Guava Croissant is a mini Hawaiian vacation. The flaky, buttery pastry envelops a luscious strawberry and guava filling that transports you straight to a tropical paradise.
The White Chocolate Lavender Shortbread Cookie is sophistication in baked form. The subtle lavender notes beautifully complement the creamy white chocolate, creating a cookie that is both elegant and comforting.
The Brown Butter Chocolate Chunk Cookie is pure indulgence. The rich, nutty flavor of brown butter pairs perfectly with generous chunks of chocolate, making every bite a heavenly experience.
The Leviathan Brownie is a chocolate lover's dream. Dense but also somehow airy?- fudgy, and decadently rich, it's everything a brownie should be and more.
The Lemon Cinnamon Braid is a delightful twist on a classic. The bright lemon zest and warm cinnamon are woven together in a soft, tender braid that is then glazed- and impossible to resist.
The Olive Oil Focaccia is a revelation . With its crisp exterior and airy, flavorful interior, it's the perfect accompaniment to any meal or simply enjoyed on its own. This is genuinely the best bread I've /ever/ had.
Their Honey Lavender Latte is a soothing balm to the soul. The delicate floral notes of lavender paired with the sweetness of honey create a latte that is both calming and invigorating.
Even their Americano coffee is exceptional, with a robust, smooth flavor that speaks to the quality of their beans and the expertise of their baristas.
Speaking of baristas, the wonderful employees at Leviathan Bakeshop truly elevate the experience. Their warm, welcoming demeanor and passion for their craft are evident in every interaction, making each visit feel like coming home.

Read moreBrown butter chocolate chip cookies were "pretty good". Atmosphere was typical pretentious coffee shop/bakery. Took at least 5 minutes for someone to open a cabinet and hand me cookies after I paid, which was mildly irritating. Overall, the experience was not bad - but not amazing either. I was originally hoping for an actual bakery with bakery levels of stuff to choose from so I was a little disappointed. I just moved to Indy from the Seattle area and anyone from the PNW looking for that semi-yuppie coffee shop vibe will be very satisfied with what they are doing here.
Update: I stopped in for another brown butter chocolate chip cookie. I reread my old review. It didn't take 5 minutes to hand me a cookie this time. However, their kiosk is set to demand a tip if you pay with a card. So for the hard work of handing me a cookie, I am expected to tip? Nah... I chose "custom tip" and hit $0.00. After thinking about things - this place isn't for me. I don't like being shaken down for a tip. I don't want to think about what the rainbow flag on the counter represents. I don't want to have to tell someone my name in order buy a cookie. I don't like feeling judged for just wanting to buy a cookie without having to deal with all that. More power to them and how they want to run their business, but I think this will be the last time I stop in. I'll stick to places that will just keep things simple.
UPDATE #2: With regards to your "No Tip" button, I attempted to use it and it was non-functional. Which made things even more awkward when all I wanted was to buy a cookie, but instead I had to select "custom tip" in order to not be forced to tip. All of this happening while I'm being eyed by a couple of employees who at that point, know my name. Which is an uncomfortable situation to be in when all I wanted was a cookie. So either my eyes and memory are completely out of order and I'm seeing and remembering things that don't happen, or...
Read moreAs native downtown Indianapolis dwellers, this is one of our go-to breakfasts on the weekend. It is impossible to go wrong Leviathan, everything is delicious. If you can only try one thing, you have to try the croissants. The plain croissant is excellent, but they also have an everything croissant that is highly recommended, and beautiful, colorful laminated croissants with rotating flavors. You will be hard-pressed to find a better croissant in France, and for the Midwest US, this is a clear number one. The quiche is delicious and has an amazing, flaky, tender crust. There are several other lovely pastries and hand pies, and they’re all great. They have an excellent selection of café drinks beyond just very good quality, house-made coffees and lattes, including a few light alcoholic drinks that go well with a celebratory breakfast or brunch (I don’t drink myself, but friends have said that they are good). The desserts are as delicious as they are pleasing to the eye. The Basque cheesecake is highly recommended; with its burnt-top caramelized flavor, it’s not quite like any other cheesecake you’ll have. A warning, in terms of service and tables, this is a café not a restaurant, and there is no reserve seating. If you’d like to sit and work, this is a great, bustling café environment if that’s the kind of background noise that makes you productive. The lines are usually not bad the first hour or two after they open on the weekends, but if you come after that, there will be a line, and there may not be too many places to sit. The outside tables are on a very cute city corner, but it is a multi lane road with a highway right in the background, so there is some generic background urban...
