The food was Mediocre. & the service was even more distasteful. I don’t know if the two young ladies working were just having a bad day but they were rude from the time we ordered to us getting our food. My first friend who ordered asked if they had Carne asada to substitute for something and the girl rolled her eyes and said no what we have is only on the menu. Which is okay but the attitude wasn’t needed. Then when she payed the other lady said just for her to insert the card which she did and the girl snarkely said “ I told you only to press the green button don’t over complicate it” when she didn’t know what to do after Inserting bc she didn’t inform her what to do next. After we all ordered we were told to wait by the side for our name to get called. Which we waited right next to the counter waiting for our name and no one called it in the next 15 minutes. It is a Saturday night and they were a little busy so I may understand the wait but it went by a little longer and they could tell we were waiting and asked what we got & told her the chips and queso and coke & she asked for the name and we told her and she then said we called your name earlier and you weren’t here. My friend said I apologize we didn’t hear it but we were definitely close enough to hear them They just didn’t Call it. My friend also said do you have one for my friend Brook and she said yeah we called hers earlier too, then processed to roll her eyes grab the bag of chips throw it on the counter then went to the back for 5 minutes to grab the queso and brought it back. As for someone who works in retail & food service , the manager needs to talk with them about compassion and patience. I’ve never myself experienced someone as condescending and rude as the two girls who were working today. I love trying new foods and supporting any business in Indy but this has made me think not to return...
Read moreJust...no. Big fan of Carribean cuisine and the variations of flavors throughout the region. I make my own Mojo de Ajo and really appreciate the blends of styles/cultures/ingredients that resulted from an area w/ a problematic history of people having to "find a way" to make things work.
This...was not it.
We tried all of the vegetarian/pescatarian options per tacos (4 in all). All were "ok", but nothing remotely compelling. The flavors didn't strongly vary, it all just resulted in a bunch of limited flavors w/o even a good sauce to try and carry it through (although one was drowning in sauce to be nearly inedible - tofu perhaps). If I just shredded the various things in my vegetable crisper and threw them on a corn tortilla then I'd be fairly close per flavor.
But the "street corn" was the worst. Canned corn w/ no roasting and drowned in a sauce (you honestly didn't just parch a bunch of corn at the start of the day in a skillet at least?). For anyone who has just stopped by an old woman w/ a small charcoal grill on the street in Mexico and decided to give luck a try, you'll want to throw this high-priced fakery right back at them.
I've even had a street corn variation in Belize (at Elvi's Kitchen by the way) that includes a lobster/crab sauce. Try that and you will know what an incredible and over the top "street corn" experience can be.
If you're in the Bottleworks and are tempted by flavors and foods in this genre, ignore the marketing and just turn around to head across the way to Azucar Morena. ...
Read moreFinding good tacos in Indy has been a challenge so I really really wanted to love this place.
I ordered the Korean BBQ, braised pork carnitas, and the shrimp tacos, and paired it with the 5 spice pork quesadillas. The quesadilla was pretty good but the tacos were another story.
The tacos make for nice pictures but they failed to live up to the hype. Bonus points for creative ingredients and looking pretty I guess, but the meats are definitely underwhelming.
The meat is the essence of a taco. It doesn't matter if you're going for the traditional flavors or the fusion route like this place, it's the most important component. Without it, it's just a tortilla. I felt like my inner child unwrapped a Christmas present to discover a pair of knit socks. That's what eating these tacos felt like.
No amount of fancy wrapping paper can change the pending disappointment. The cool hip ingredients don't help if the taco meat tastes like it was microwaved from a can.
Another analogy is like putting ketchup on dough and pouring nacho sauce to make "cheese pizza". It just doesn't work
The tacos don't taste horrible but management takes themselves seriously enough to charge $4 per taco. They deserve a reality check, and people should be warned to temper their...
