Tender Greens — Restaurant in Irvine

My wife and I ordered two takeout meals from Tender Greens on 8/7/20. The meals were ordered during the evening hours. We were very disappointed with the meals and service. First off, the meals took approximately 35 minutes to prepare. Even then, the salmon I ordered was essentially raw. I was told that they were out of mashed potatoes and I couldn’t order it as a side dish. I chose roasted potatoes in place of it. Much to our surprise, when we returned home and opened up the takeout containers, each of our meals included mashed potatoes, even though my wife ordered a different side dish. The mashed potatoes had portions that were raw (i.e., hard, crunchy pieces of potato). Moreover, we were given a second dish that we had not requested. My wife and I each ordered the sautéed spinach as our second side dish. Instead, my wife was given kale salad and I received a salad that appeared to be made with arugula. Neither my wife or I are big fans of kale and arugula and we were not able to eat it. All in all, a disappointing dinner...

I have been going here weekly for the past few years. I appreciate that they cook your food fresh! I like the Chipotle Barbecue Chicken Salad, Grilled Steak Plate, Chicken Pesto Sandwich, and Katsu Bowl. The food is truly very good — there is no denying it.

There is one major downside: they frequently forget things in your order and there is considerable variation from day to day. I order stock menu items without any substitutions and they would frequently forget sides, forget salad dressing, forget ingredients in the salad, forget to season the meat etc. It seems to happen a little less frequently than before but it still does happen. I always check to make sure everything is there now whenever I pick up the food.

Also given the price point, although it is clean and friendly, I wouldn’t necessarily say this place is “nice.” It has a similar vibe to Panera Bread (although with much better food). I wouldn’t take someone here to...

Tender Greens was the chosen spot for our get away from the children date. My wife ordered The Chinese chicken salad, and I ordered the seared tuna with butter lettuce And mashed potatoes. I read a review, and that said the mashed potatoes were delicious. However, that was not my experience; everything was good, but the mashed potatoes. I asked about the potatoes; then I was told the regular cook had not come in, and what I was given was a rushed batch. That cost them a ratings star. I loved the seared tuna and my wife was thoroughly satisfied with her chicken salad. The mint lemonade was excellent! They even had a green juice that my wife liked that was a miracle all by itself. The french fries were very good. The restaurant was clean in the ambiance, very casual. If you like to people watch like we do Tender Greens is a great place to do it.
