TL;DR - Ok food, terrible service, brought a declared allergen to the table then said they would charge us to remove it
Most restaurants are good about allergens. You tell them a specific person has an allergy, and they dont include that in that persons food. Humans make mistakes, so sometimes the instruction gets lost and the allergen arrives at the table. Most restaurants in that situation will apologize profusely and maybe do something with the bill, or maybe not, but they would at least fix the allergen problem. Not our friends at Yasashi.
My wife, who is allergic to avocado, ordered a bento. We explained that she's allergic, said a california roll without avocado or literally any other substitution would be fine. Bento shows up with a california roll with Avocado in it. We send it back, pointing out the problem.
A different waitress comes by to deliver the revised bento, and explains that they will be charging us a dollar extra for making a new california roll without avocado. She explains that they had to make it special and that she would be charging us for it.
To be honest, if they had explained that when we were ordering that would have been fine, and I would have cheerfully paid the extra dollar as I understood the problem. But to have them deliver an allergen to the table AFTER we told them about the allergy, and then have them tell us that they would be charging us for the privilege of correcting their mistake, was a bit rich. The food wasnt good enough to mute the taste that interaction left in my mouth.
Another waitress brought us our bill after I explained my thoughts on the matter and said they had decided not to charge us the extra dollar. She even said that was "the least they could do". She's right, it's the literal least they could do.
Edit: Owner responded and appears to have completely missed the point. If their staff had articulated the "we have to make the roll special so it costs a bit extra" policy BEFORE delivering said medical risk to the table, everything would have been fine. Their staff delivered a dangerous item to the table after being told not to, and far from being apologetic decided to try and paper over their mistake by introducing a new charge.
Let me see if I can make this clear:
PRODUCTIVE CONVERSATION:
Me: "This item will harm my wife, dont bring it" Staff: "It will cost a dollar" Me: "Thats fine, I understand!"
WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED:
Me: "This item will harm my wife, dont bring it" Staff: BRINGS DANGEROUS ITEM Me: "This is dangerous, I told you not to bring this" Staff: "Oops. OK, we fixed it, but now we're going to charge you extra" Me: "Thats how you want to play this? You're lucky I checked the food because I dont trust you." Staff: "Yeah, thats our policy, we're not really going to apologize for bringing a dangerous item...
Read moreThis was my first time trying this place I ordered a simple Deep Fried Nacho Roll no avacado.... What I thought was a simple order but when I got my order it had avacodo in it. Seemed like a simple fix I took it back in to the person that took my order and she proceeded to tell me no that's probably cucumber, I stated well this looks mushy and I'm pretty sure that's not cucumber (not to mention the roll did not come with cucumber in it). After asking the chef he stated it was cucumber and apologized and offered to remake it. At that point I asked the young lady that took my order could I add cream cheese in the place of cucumber and I was willing to pay extra. She was hesitant at responding as if she didnt know so she asked another young lady that was there eating behind the counter...it seemed like it was becoming a hassle so i just stated nevermind and walked back outside for a moment. When I came back in the ladies seemed to stop their conversation and laughed. Now maybe I was making assumptions but at that point I said I dont find anything funny I was willing to pay extra for what im asking for.... long story short Me asking for an extra ingredient that I was willing to pay for seemed like an issue so even though my food tasted pretty good (only reason I gave 2 stars instead of 1) the second time it was made it still wasn't exactly what I really wanted, and I wasn't happy about the customer service. I was hoping I had found me a go to sushi spot since I'm new here but instead found a place I would rather not return to... the young lady saw that I was upset and tried to tell me she could ask him to add cream cheese and proceeded to tell me she was new, which I'm not faulting her for BUT overall the situation could have/ should have been handled better. I shouldn't have had to say I won't be returning to then get decent...
Read moreThere's been a Japanese restaurant at this location for years. The first that i remember was Ichijo, which was sold and renamed to Hanashi. At the start of the pandemic, the owners went back to Japan and the restaurant was renamed by the current owners to Yasashi. At first, i was really impressed by the quality of the food. Because of the pandemic, we ordered lunch to go several times. The first couple of times, the fish was really fresh but as time went on, we noticed it got worse and worse. We just stopped ordering from them. Last night, we decided to have dinner here, hoping that the dine in experience would be better. The ramen was good - the pork broth was really flavorful and the serving was generous. The aji tamago probably needed more time to marinate though. I was disappointed in the chicken karaage. It was a sticky mess, not unlike Chinese sweet and sour chicken. The sushi also, i felt, could have been better. The sushi rice sort of broke apart when I picked it up with chopsticks and it could've used a bit more vinegar. I can't fault the service though. The wait staff were really attentive and seemed genuinely happy to have us as customers. I really wish Yasashi could get their act together and up their game. Overall though, it was just an...
